I seem to be a seagull high in the clouds, scavenging the land for leftovers from the crowd. I stand alone forgotten, watching worlds go by. It's so hard to contemplate a natural high

Stone cold sober as I pick up the phone. I dial you up knowing you're not home, and don't you think I notice while you're walking by, I'm just another dreamer living a lie.

And if you think I cry for you, these tears are just the rain falling in my eyes. Think you bare strikes, but he never strikes at you. Oh yes, it's true, the rain makes me cry.

And I'm just a dreamer, dreaming thoughts of us. My mind is separated; is it love or only lust?

But beauty can deceive me, and I fell for that before, but when I look into your eyes, girl, I'm feeling something more.

And if you think I cry for you, these tears are just the rain falling in my eyes. Think you bare strikes, yeah, but he never strikes at you. Oh yes, it's true, the rain makes me cry.

You take your love for granted; you steal it when it's for free. My heart is closed to others; it's only you that holds the key.

The rain falls harder as you walk away. I lift my eyes to heaven and pray for sun today. My head sinks to the floor and without the sun to shine, puddles gather quickly with these tears of mine.

And if you think I cry for you, these tears are just the rain falling in my eyes. Think you bare strikes, yeah, but he never strikes at you. Oh yes, it's true, the rain makes me-

If you think I cry for you, these tears are just the rain falling in my eyes. Think you bare strikes, yeah, but he doesn't strike at you. Oh yes, it's true that rain makes me cry lala hey lalala ho lalala hey la. The rain makes me cry lala hey lalala ho lalala hey la. The rain makes me cry lala hey lalala ho lalala hey la. The rain makes me cry lala hey lalala ho lalala hey la. The rain makes me cry.

These tears are not for you. No baby, I know your love will never do. No, no, no, no, it's just the rain, baby. It's just the rain, baby. The rain falling in my eyes, yeah, yeah.

These tears are not for you. It's just the rain, just the rain; the rain makes me cry.

is saying that yea... he feels left out... not getting what he really deserves and is never in with the crowd getting what they took from him... only leaving the "leftovers"

I stand alone forgotten, watching worlds go by It's so hard to contemplate a natural high

is saying that he is left out bringing up the idea of "aloneness"

I wrote an essay on this for my lit class.

He's singing to a girl that he loves and tells about easch part of his relationship with this girl and gives visual indications of each emotion that was felt by him during the time that he was with her. Sadly, when it comes to love, Cain feels that he is always getting seconds and never getting what he truly wants the most, which is a good loving relationship with the girl he loves. The first verse is about what he felt like while he was in love and giving out all the love he has to offer but not getting any love back. Cain compares himself to a seagull in the way that he feels like he is just staying out of the whole love situation and never getting to get to the ground where he can find love. Feeling like he is always on the outside looking in on love and and the people who are in is love is shown to you in the next few lines. When he says he is "scavenging the land for leftovers from the crowd," he could be feeling like he is getting no love or attention and he has to go out looking for whatever love he can get that hasn't already been taken by the "crowd." His feelings of being unloved are made more obviously known when he says he stand slone and forgotten without any of the love or affection he feels that everybody needs. The song is made more into a romantic and cute song when he says that he picks up the phone and calls this girl even though he knows she's not home. In those same lines, Cain says that he is "stone cold sober," when he calls her, implying that there was nothing affecting his thinking when he called her so it must have been love. Cain also says that he is only a dreamer to think that the girl is in love with him like he is with her.

    [Continued]

The chorus, which is also the second verse, is where Brett Cain makes the title come into the song. In this verse, Cain uses the rain to represent all of the unpleasant things that can happen to, and during, a relationship. The first two lones of the chorus is where he says that he isn't crying for the girl, but he admits that he is crying. He also says that his "tears are jus tthe rain falling in [his] eyes." Cain says that the girl might think that she has been hurt, probably by love, but that she really hasn't even experienced a fraction of the pain that he deals with. Then to finish off the chorus, he again admits that he cries and tells the girl that HE is the one that has dealt with pain in love, and that "yes, it's true, the rain makes [him] cry." He says that the rain makes him cry because the rain also is a symbol of all the bad things in a relationship that he experienced.

    [Continued 2.0]

The third verse is about the confusing aspects of love and relationships. Cain once again says that he is just a dreamer, which gives the song a lighter, happier feeling. The idea of dreaming is brought up again. Dreaming is already a light word but the feeling of the word isn't continued through the verse. He says that he is not sure whether he is experiencing love or just lust with this girl. Cain lets you know that the girl he is singing to is rather beautiful and he has been deceived by beauty before. Brett says that he knows he won't be deceived by her looks like he has been before b other people. When he is with her he looks into her eyes and knows that it must be lust. It isn't backed up by the chorus, which is repeated again after this third verse.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
