Lake Swimming Lyrics

Lake swimming
Shucking free our deadened selves
Like snakes and corn do
Our bodies tore off swimming suits
And all the old notions
The cold ocean far away

Enter the sun
Marching like a matador
Flashing her yellow velvet suit
Throwing a red cape on the sky
Old butterfly
I’ll dance with you
Though our wings may crumble
We can float like ash
Broken but the edges still shine

Lake swimming
Shucking free our deadened selves
Like snakes and corn do
Our bodies tore off swimming suits
And all the old notions
The cold ocean far away

Amazing, amazing the way she can bring the details out with her choice of words. Stirring images of things I'd never have noticed otherwise. Making the simple elegant and making moments everlasting. I could go on forever. Lake Swimming was one of the first songs I heard by Laura and from the first listen until now I am in love.

The third line makes much more sense now that I know she's not singing "like snakes in corn dip".

lovely song, beautiful poetry, as always I imagine she's telling the story of a moment in a romance some one once had only laura could write it in such a way as to keep it from becoming even remotely sentimental and corny. I love this girl :)
