Paper Wings Lyrics
Your paper wings got ruined in the rain
Coat hanger halo got rusted.
The lace fell off of the dress you made.
You’re the saddest little angel,
Mascara left a sour taste.
And I wish that I was there
When you took that fall
I’m too weak to pick you up,
But I would have lay down
In this puddle beside you,
‘Cause it’s all that I can do
I didn’t have the heart to tell you,
It’s really bad,
It’s really bad this time.
Like wild horses running scared
From a storm that’s too much to bare.
It’s sad the things you used to fear
Don’t seem so bad
They’re not so bad,
Don’t let them scare you.
I pushed your bed to the window today
You’re still not well enough,
Turned visitors away
I fight these tears by your beside
How dare I let you see me cry
I didn’t have the heart to tell you,
It’s really bad
It’s really bad this time
Your wings weren’t meant for this,
This weather that no one guessed
No calm before the storm
And it’s gone before the panic sets
So let’s take our time with this
Bleach the mud from off your dress
You much such an innocent mess of all of this
And I wish that I was there
When you took that fall
I’m too weak to pick you up,
But I would have lay down
In this puddle beside you,
‘Cause it’s all that I can do
I didn’t have the heart to tell you,
It’s really bad,
It’s really bad this time.

so i was kinda thinking that i have no clue what this song is about. anyone wanna hook me up with an answer?
To me it seems obvious that it's about a guy who has a close friend/girlfriend who is really sick, possibly facing a terminal illness and he doesn't have the heart to tell her that it is indeed that bad, he wants to be there for her, but he can only do so much and he doesn't want her to be scared saying that it's ironic the things you're scared of before facing something of this nature.
Personally, I think the song is about his vision of his girlfriend as an angel to him, he thinks very highly of her. Then one day, she is hit with a sickness (a storm) and she falls (gets sick). He doesn't have the will in him to tell her that she is really sick, and probably won't make it. He doesn't want to cry by her bed and let her see him, because then she would know the severity of it.
"No calm before the storm" to me that means its sudden and then "In this puddle beside you" would mean puddle of blood...well thats what I think...So I think that maybe someone could have got shot...or something sudden like that.
this band can write
You guys are all right. I think Pasat 14's comment was a bit over the top. But it really does sound like it is about this guy and his lover. He does look at her like an angel, she is the most precious thing in his life. Something happens though, like she gets really sick, or gets hurt. This happens while he is not around, so maybe they had temporarily split. When he finds her, or when he sees her next. He isn't able to make her better, he can't save her life. So he sits by her bedside, watching the only thing that matters in life die before him. He tries bitterly not to cry so as to not show her that she really wont make it out this time. (Probably an ongoing, degenerative sickness since he keeps saying "this time") He is ready to do anything for her, but there is nothing to be done, so he simply states "But I would have lay down In this puddle beside you, ‘Cause it’s all that I can do"
Then near the end he says "Bleach the mud from off your dress". This would be like either trying to make her well again or making her presentable for her death.
And than also, "you make such an innocent mess of all this". He is saying that even though she doesn't mean to, she is ruining life.
haha then again this might ALL be wrong. Just keep posting ;)
this is so beautiful, and yet so depressing! i reckon his gf is dying and she is really innocent, it's heartbreaking and the way he sings it¬ wow!
Gr68901 has got this..although the "innocent mess" and "bleaching the mud off her dress" I feel is his way of clearing her up to busy himself, like extra fuss in caring for her while she's ill and making it seem like nothing is her fault, because i know what its like having an angel, and they are your world, and nothing can be their fault.
this band just understands the heartbreak and feelings behind death. i've cried so many times while listening to this song. Obviously it's about his girlfriend or someone really close to him dying, and he's learning to accept that but it's just so hard for him.
