Stay Lyrics
[Shakespears Sister Cover]
If this world is wearing thin
And you're thinking of escape
I'll go anywhere with you
Just wrap me up in chains
But if you try to go alone
Don't think I'll understand
Stay with me
Stay with me
In the silence of your room
In the darkness of your dreams
You must only think of me
There can be no in between
When your pride is on the floor
I'll make you beg for more
Stay with me
Stay with me
You'd better hope and pray
That you make it safe
Back to your own world
You'd better hope and pray
That you'll wake one day
In your own world
Coz when you sleep at night
They don't hear your cries
In your own world
Only time will tell
If you can break the spell
Back in your own world
Stay with me
Stay with me
Stay, stay with me
Stay, stay, stay, stay, stay
Stay with me
And you're thinking of escape
I'll go anywhere with you
Just wrap me up in chains
But if you try to go alone
Don't think I'll understand
Stay with me
In the darkness of your dreams
You must only think of me
There can be no in between
When your pride is on the floor
I'll make you beg for more
Stay with me
That you make it safe
Back to your own world
You'd better hope and pray
That you'll wake one day
In your own world
Coz when you sleep at night
They don't hear your cries
In your own world
Only time will tell
If you can break the spell
Back in your own world
Stay with me
Stay, stay with me
Stay, stay, stay, stay, stay
Stay with me

This was originally performed by Shakespear's Sister.
I think it's about someone who has a friend or a lover who is depressed and wants to kill themself, but he doesn't want them to. He's saying, "If you're seriously gonna commit suicide, you better take me with you and if you don't I won't forgive you for leaving me alone. But I really wish you wouldn't. Please stay with me and don't go. I don't want you to die." From reading the lyrics, I just get the feeling it's about him trying to hang on to his loved one and prevent them from taking their own life and making him suffer by himself. It's sweet. I love it. I said something similar to someone once.
devilslittlesister most likely true...somebody close to him. i'd feel the same.
Stay is a track by Shakespears Sister that we've bastardized. Now it sounds a bit more like a symphonic 'Nymphetamine' -Dani
cradles version of this song is so much better, fell in love with the song when first listening to
It's actually written in a female's aspect. Because we should all know that, yes it is a cover of Shakespeare's Sister's orginal. Two characters are involved, the good and the bad. Plus the male role in the middle, but he has no lyrical content. One of the characters is light, and one is darkness. That is the obvious basis of the song. It could be as simple as a woman speaking to her lover while he is dreaming, expressing her love. While the world of dreams is trying to keep him. It reminds me of the painting by Bill Stoneham entitled "The Hands Resist Him". It could also be about a woman whose lover has fallen into a coma and death is trying to take him over, but she is trying to lull him back to wake. Pretty great song though.
Such a lovely song. They made a wonderful cover here. It's much better than the original. The first time I heard this, I was so disappointed when it was over! I wanted it to continue on.
whatever the meaning it is one of the greatest covers ever done by anyone
i agree with their point of views..specially of reptile_house's .. there are mainly two speakers in the song whom i believe both care for a person either suffering from a near-death disease or suicidal attempt.... . dunno.. it was the 1st song ive heard from cof, and i thot it was an original track... such a sweet song...
I don't think this song is about death at all...death is symbolic here...to me it's about love...and desperate attempt to save the one we love from the claws of ''death'' to another lover,or any addiction as they lost their path..' 'stay with me''..is a hearfelt plea for the loved one to come back from the ''dark''..and back into the light
