A Few Small Bruises Lyrics

Out here on the ledge
I'm not far away from stepping off
I've finally picked out my cloud
It's the one over there
Surrounded by all that air

You reached out your hand
And said I understand
So why not come down

Well except for a few small bruises, cuts, and scars well I'm fine
Except for a few small bruises ,cuts, and scars well I'm fine

Thank you for asking
I'm so glad we had this moment here
I know they think I'm crazy
But everything I am is what I was taught to be

You reached out your hand
And said I understand
So why not come down

Well except for a few small bruises, cuts, and scars well I'm fine
Except for a few small bruises, cuts, and scars well I'm fine

And as you read my words out loud
Make me sound genius
Make me sound special
And maybe I'll come down

Well except for a few small bruises, cuts, and scars well I'm fine
Except for a few small bruises, cuts, and scars well I'm fine

And as you read my words out loud
Make me sound genius
Make me sound special
And maybe I'll come down

A lot of Maria Mena's song have references to cutting, so I don't think that the cuts, bruises, and scars are emotional metaphors. I think that the girl (or guy) in the story wasn't taught how to handle their emotions (But everything I am is what I was taught to be) and so they deal with them through self-harm. Someone finds her and she attempts to explain herself. I think when she says "And as you read my words out loud make me sound genius make me sound special" that she's being sarcastic, extremely. She realizes she has a problem to an extent. I don't know, just my thoughts.

at the begining of the song its like shes going to kill herself, then someone says they understand and want to helf her, then shes like 'ive got brusies and cuts but now im going to be fine' shes found someone to help and make her inportant and loved. i only thought that this was about like that when i looked up the lyrics and properly listened to it. before that i thought it was like shes got bruises, cuts and scars but thats no big deal, it doesnt matter, shes not inportant. she doesnt have self esteem so she doesnt matter to the world and no one should care. maria mena sorts my life.

I think that this song relates to a person who was taught that she was nothing and has never been heard or given attention. So she resorts to hurting herself for attention. Eventually she does it so much that she's about ready to give up until another person notices them. This person is actually concerned and tries to help her get better...

I THINK IT IS INDEED ABOUT A PERSON WHO HARMS HERSELF, BUT DOESN'T REALIZE SHE HAS A PROBLEM I SAY THIS BECAUSE SHE SINGS ''Well except for a few small bruises, cuts, and scars well I'm fine Except for a few small bruises ,cuts, and scars well I'm fine''

I really doubt this song is about hurting herself for attention. Many people believe that is why people do that, but the truth is quite different.

I believe this song is about her finally finding someone who completely understands everything about her and that she may have a few bruises but she still is fine to him/her.

I also don't think this is about her not realizing she has a problem. I think that is like a sarcastic or maybe a "i'm ok now" statement.

First of all there are two reasons people hurt themselves:

  1. that is their only way of letting pain out. its their way to cry.
  2. because they dont necassarly do it for the attention, but a cry for help.

This song is talking about a girl who maybe wants to commit suicide, "Out here on the ledge,I'm not far away from stepping off" the cloud she is referring to is surrounded by air, as if she feels free. Just like the second reason people hurt themselves, because its a cry for help, she meets someone who wants to help her. In the genious part, she is exclaiming that she wants him to make her beautiful with all these things...and then maybe shell rethink leaving.

Thats how i view this song.

I agree with Anna, it seems like a very appropriate way of explaining the song, not as an attention seeking things, but a cry for help. Genius.

I think the bruises, cuts and scars are an EMOTIONAL METAPHOR. And not actual physical bruises, cuts or scars. I think it's just about a girl who felt hopeless and couldn't find anyone who could care or relate to her until "you" reached out to her and helped her. And I think she wrote a poem, or a song, or a story that she was too shy to tell anyone about but he found it and read it for which made her feel special and takes her off her edge of loneliness.
