I walk barefoot where the water drowns the sand
With you no longer here to hold my hand

I let go
I let go

The ocean makes my swelling heart feel small
With the sounds it makes you won't hear it if I call
I let go
I let go

There's a breeze in the air
There's a boat anrchored out here
There's a calm under the waves so I choose to sink

Your skin protected me from sunbeams
Your hands made sure I'd stay intact
I let go
I let go

You were always there to walk me home
With you not here, the streets I roam
I let go
I let go

There's a breeze in the air
There's a boat anrchored out here
There's a calm under the waves as I choose to sink
With your voice in my head
I would float here instead
But there's a calm under the waves
So I choose to sink

I'm tired now
I'll see you when I wake up
I've heard it's pretty where you are
I let go
I let go
There's a breeze

hmm; when I first heard it, I thought it was about someone drowning themselves after someone they loved died. shrug either way, amazing song.

I always thought that this song is about some boy, but I guess the grandpa thing makes more sense. I thought that this is about a hard relationship, when you love somebody, but it just doesn't work out and finally you just decide to give up and let go...

I think this beautyful song is about letting go, and since it's dedicated to her grandpa, it's probably about his death.

okeonie, you just made my night. i assumed this song was about a boy... but that makes even more sense, the dead grandpa. my grandpa just died a few weeks ago and i'm still struggling to get over it.

I'm tired now, I'll see you when I wake up. I've heard it's pretty where you are. I let go, I let go.

love. ugh i love music. i feel less alone.

Calm under the waves according to maria is about learning how to live without someone you love, and wanting to give up.

I guess since y'all said she said that it was about her grandfather, then it should be right.

buutttt i agree with monden, she talks about how under the waves, theres peace and things that are tempting her, etc. so thenshe says she lets go, and lets the waves cover her. thats like her drowning.

With your voice in my head, I could float here instead, But there's a calm under the waves.. So I choose to sink.

she says that where he is is beautful, and that she says im tired now, ill see you soon.

whatever just think it may be dedicated to he grandfather but its about her drowning herself

i second that...I think that its about letting go but not in the sence of giving up your life, but giving up to feelings, wichever they are..grief, love..just allow yourself to sink into it, dont struggle against it, you´ll get relief once you let yourself drown into the sea that is your feelings..

    My Interpretation

I always thought it was about suicide. All the explanations make sense. Specifically the stanza: "With your voice in my head I could float here instead, But there's a calm under the waves So I choose to sink." And the final "I let go" just sounds so tragic, like giving up.

This song is incredible. I love Maria Mena, and I think this might be my favorite of her songs.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
