Subtle Art Of The Breakup Song Lyrics

You know you look like an angel when you're sleeping, right?
Come on wake up, girl
I know you're not gonna spend your whole birthday in the shower!
I'm gonna go pack up the car
Looks like it's gonna rain...
Come on, don't worry about it

It's only sprinkling, I tell her nothing is ruined
We playin' the license plate game I'm loving what she keeps doin'
To my inner thigh, rocking the diamond earrings I gave her
She's smiling, looking angelic
All her friends secretly hate her beauty
She knows she got it
Got me where she wants me, all erotic
Next to her hand the K is burning a hole in my pocket
I pull it over, get her a soda, I'm half gone
Hit the bathroom, stick the key in the jar to turn it back on
Look in the mirror, throw some water on my face, I'm snotty
Thinking of things I'm about to do to my girl's body
The rain is picking up now, my eyes are kinda lazy
The sky is hazy
She's like "you look pale," I said she was crazy
Pushed the pedal to the floor mat
Hydroplaned corrected it fast
Then slowed down past a car crash
She put her head on my shoulder
Said she was getting a little sleepy
Don't worry, baby, we're minutes from heaven

Cage, snap out of this
Cage, snap out of it, it’s just a girl
Just a world, It's just a life
Cage, snap out of this
Cage, snap out of it, it’s just a girl
Just a world, It's just a life
Cage, snap out of this
Cage, snap out of it, it’s just a girl
Just a world, It's just a life

I pick my face up with glass in it
Can't remember the last minute
Glove box, my girl's face mashed in it!
I called her name out, she ain't respond
Pulled her shoulder back, touched her arm
Her entire fucking face is gone!
I see you breathing, I'm pleading with Jesus, leave her lifeless
Don't leave her like this
Reached for the birthday balloon of Nitrous
I'm trying to dial for help with hands I can't feel
Stuck in the driver's seat, my broken ribs gripping the steering wheel
She squeezed my hand, then let go
I should have been sitting shotty
And the rain wouldn't still be pouring all over the angel's body
I'm trying to crawl back in the K hole to get outta the car
But the K won't climb out of my nose and back in the jar
This isn't her I tell myself, at least she's happy
Wherever she is, her soulless eyes looking at me
I pump my fists to bleed out to catch her and let the worms play
And tell her I'm sorry I gave her death for her birthday

Obviously there aren't many hip hop heads on this site if there's only one Cage song. Thanks for adding it hak... check out the Cunninlynguists, Heiruspecs and Immortal Technique pages. Pretty much all me. Anyway...

Honestly, this song is inferior to Atmosphere's Hair for just about every reason. The story is about exactly the same, finding the perfect girl only to fuck it up because of drugs/alcohol. It's just that Cage often has shock value for shock value's worth. Something he's cut back on a just a LIL bit on Hell's Winter. In Atmosphere's Hair you don't see it coming as it comes at the very end after clever dialogue, etc. Where as Cage just loves to linger in the most fucked up situations possible.

haha, i love all those artists you mentioned. i hate that ppl don't know great hip-hop. i was readin about Shia Labeouf doin a Cage movie on the mtv website, and the comments were like, "i dont know who this 'cage' is, but i love shia." Pisses me off, haha

I actually much prefer the beat in this song to Atmosphere's "Hair" while both do have an intense story to follow. I like where Cage went with it, and YES, it is for shock value, but think of this; if you are going to write a song about a car crash (especially if you've been in one and know how fucked up and high strung they are) why not make the emotions show in the heavy lyrics and beat, rather than put a happy wappy beat to it? Both songs are good, Cage's isn't inferior in my book...

"Honestly, this son is inferior to Atmosphere's Hair for just about every reason." - I can't TELL you how much I disagree. Cage's flow is better, lyric choice is better, rhyme scheme is better, beat is better... the only thing that Atmosphere did better was storyline. Also, I think that if you're gonna write a story about a car crash maybe there should be more than one line about it. Seemed unfinished- though I understand that was part of the point. Atmosphere is awesome... but Cage is ridiculous.

is this a true story?

I am a bigger Atmosphere fan than a Cage fan, but I prefer the slower beat and fucked up lyrics by Cage as compared to the relatively upbeat instrumental and lyics by Slug and Ant. I particularly like the last lines of each verse on "Breakup."

Yeah, I love the beat to this song.

Does anyone know the lyrics to the bridge? It sounds like "Bitch, snap out of it x2, It's just a girl, just the world..." and I can't make out anything else.

the bridge is actually from Suicidal Failure from Cage's Movies For The Blind release in 2002. "Snap out of this, Cage. Snap out of this- just a girl, just the world, it's just the life."

the lyrics are "snap out of it, cage snap out of it, its just a girl, just a world, its just a life" and that repeats its a sample taken from "a suicidal failure" which is from cage's album before hell's winter

why the hell are you comparing cage (1 person aka artist) and atmosphere (3 people aka GROUP)?

you guys should get your facts straight before you try to compare dr. octagon and mf doom together aswell.

maybe you shouldn't listen to any one on def jux and stick with atmosphere who goes on warp tour.

Atmosphere has had 2 members since Spawn left after the Overcast release. Slug is the only rapper in the group. I also don't see why you couldn't compare somewhat similar artists because one of the two considers the producer to be in the group. And I'm sorry for listening to more than one type of music.

ok shut the hell up everyone who the fuck cares if they are artists or not or if they rap differently its their own style, thats why its Cage and Atmosphere, not Cagemosphere.. cuz they are different... now comparing Hair and this song and saying they are the same is pretty dumb because they are about completely dif things.. this songs meaning is in the title and hes describing how hes describing the emotional side of dealing with the breakup..

in hair it could be seen as a couple different ways, as an opposite physical side to the song Reflections, or a story about how alcohol changes things neither of which has anything to do with a breakup as he just met a girl at a bar.

Atmosphere tends to have a more upbeat and intellectual way of rapping while cage has a more down depressing and poignant rapping style... pick your poison but dont argue who's better its a matter of taste preference.. i mean they are different rappers and different people different minds get the fuck over it already holy cow

the lyrics in the bridge are 'cage snap out of it, its just a girl, shes just the world, its just my life.

The lyrics are in the song 'sisidle falure' Where he is also talking about loosing his girlfriend.
