This is part of the visual message on the cover, of the wasteland, dead trees, it seems nothing is living. The only thing even touching it is the sun. It exists, it is seen, but there is nothing, only an infestation of locusts, the locusts that are responsible for killing everything and making it into a wasteland.
The analogy, the meaning, is that this is a person. I've had this happen to myself many times - I stop to look deep inside someone, thinking that glimmer of light might be some hope of something good. And I end up feeling as dead inside as they do, because their locusts are the only thing that's left to greet me. They destroy me as well. And I wonder why I even bother.
good work on the lyric corrections, i like the idea of the song and the imagery ur talking about i haven't ever seen the cover but yeh, fucking awesome song i love the last minute....it's just too good..

This song reminds me of a sorta teenage version of Charlie Brown. Throw this in the soundtrack and I'd like to watch that.
Hey, does anyone think this song might have something to do with John the baptist? I mean, it comes right after sparkplug (which sounds like it's about the passion of the Christ) and JTB was sort of an outcast who ate locusts right? Or am I just grasping for straws here? I just thought it might fit in with the themes discussed here and the aftermath of sparkplug, but maybe not.
