Tomorrow Lyrics

Tomorrow
I’m gonna find a way to die
I’m living only for a lover
And the death of you and I
But if you find a way to break my back
With needles, thread, and guilt
Will you cover me in kerosene
And burn my strychnine quilt
Yeah, will you spit upon the path I took
Will you cry from all the drugs I took
Will be my little come down hook
And I’ll never ask again
Will I wake up feeling half of you
Has been striped or torn in two
To kill a young man’s point of view
Is to kill his only friend
Oh, oh

Tomorrow
We’re gonna find a place to live
I’m packing only means for red wood dreams
It’s a place that you’ll be excepted
Oh fuck the world
Just a boy and a girl
But it’s that leach you’ll have to shake
Through the love we’ll need to make
Call me sure
Yeah I’m sure I said
I said I’m open wide
But you really have to understand
We’ll build a water slide
If you’re brave enough to hold my hand
Oh, oh

"Tomorrow, I'm gonna find a way to die I'm living only for a lover And the death of you and I"

I think it's an admission that he only lives because of this girl and their relationship, and he says tomorrow he's going to find a way to die because either the relationship is ending right then or it's not enough anymore to keep living for.

"But if you find a way to break my back With needles, thread, and guilt Will you cover me in kerosene And burn my strychnine quilt?"

He's been beat down by guilt tripping to the point where his support, his back, is broken. Needle and thread is the stitching back up to stay somewhat put together. The strychnine quilt is about toxic comfort, which is probably this fantasy of dying the narrator has. The thoughts of suicide are comforting in their familiarity but also toxic for obvious reasons, and the guilt tripping is pouring kerosene on him and burning it up to try to kill this habit of comfort but he feels it's also being poured on him.

"Yeah, will you spit upon the path I took Will you cry from all the drugs I took Will you be my little come down hook And I'll never ask again"

The path he took is overdosing/suicide and that's the drugs he took, so he's contemplating how they'd react to his suicide. The comedown hook is referring to the drug addiction Justin is going through, and that's part of his depression and 'suicide' put into this narration. He's asking the girl to be his hook to staying as happy as when he's up (high), but admits he'll never ask again because he plans to die.

"Will I wake up feeling half of you Has been stripped away or torn in two? Cuz to kill a young man's point of view Is to kill his only friend, oh oh"

The dichotomy of wanting to live and wanting to die is shown in this verse. He's feeling part stripped away because of the that guilt tripping and people trying to change his mind about suicide, and torn in two because that part is torn away and the other part that wants to live is still there too. To kill his view on suicide is to kill his only friend, because it's always been there with him and he feels without it he's alone.

"Tomorrow, we're gonna find a place to live I'm packing only means for redwood dreams It's a place that you'll be accepted Oh fuck the world, just a boy and a girl But it's that leech you'll have to shake, Through the love we'll need to make Call me sure, yeah I'm sure I said I said I'm open wide But you really have to understand We'll build a waterslide if you're brave enough to hold my hand"

The first line is deceiving, he says they'll find a place to live but he's packing means for redwood dreams only. Dreaming of redwoods is a symbol for something you can't overcome, in this case suicidal thoughts or the desire to die. He's packing means for death, and death's door accepts everyone with no exceptions, hence the place they'll be accepted. Fuck the world is exactly as stated, the only good thing is him and this girl in his eyes, echoing the beginning lines sentiments. The leech they'll need to shake is the world that is so fucked. He's open wide but he asks her to understand, meaning he's empty inside, not wide open for understanding or intimacy as might be originally interpreted. The last line is him asking her (or maybe us, the listener) to join in building a waterslide. This was at first confusing, but with a theme of death water can be classically connected to the river Styx, so I believe this is saying if you're brave enough (the girl I assume he's talking to) they can plan their death together.

tomorrow might be my favorite song by the band. the lyrics are laced together so intricately and with so much purpose it makes me almost cry. its about this complicated person who no longer wants to live. people have been tearing his self-esteem down for so long that there is nothing left.

"But if you find a way to break my back With needles, thread, and guilt Will you cover me in kerosene And burn my strychnine quilt"

now his back, what holds him up and contols his actions, is a cruel fuck-the-world attitude thatis self destructive and can only be brocken by the guilt of his actions and changed by the sewing back up of his heart that has been torn wide in two. but he doesnt stop there. he has to make sure that its all done away with. he needs her to burn his the posion that drentches every aspect of himself.

"Will you wake up feeling half of you Has been striped or torn in two To kill a young man’s point of view Is to kill his only friend"

this part is really amazing. hes saying that his point of veiw on life is his only friend and if she were to kill it, it would be like killing herself. wat i find really interesting though is that he says half of her would be stripped away. like there is possibly another point of view that he might have. maybe hes not all poisoned and he can live after all.

essentially its about being in a shitty state of mind and haveing only one person that understands you while the rest of the world fucks you and you hate yourself for what you have become. the second half is almost a suicide note saying he and his love are leaving to try what is ever next togther. i dont know but i still get the feeling that, there inside of him, nomatter how small, is a part that hungers for live and has a longing to belong. and that longing is the fuel to the battle he will fight for life. wanting to and almost giving up. thats wat the song is about.

at the beginning its suicide but he wants a reason to live but then he asks her"will you spit upon the path I took will you cry from all the drugs I shook"basically will she or anyone care"will you be my little come down hook and ill never ask again"saying will she or anyone help him or give him a reason just this once"will you wake up feeling half of you has been stripped away or torn in two"will anyone care or feel anything if he kills himself "is to kill a young mans point of view is to kill...

Tomorrow I’m gonna find a way to die I’m living only for a lover And the death of you and I

i think the song is about how a relationship had ended and that she was all he lived for..and now he just feels like shit since its all over.

I think it is about suicide, but then realizing that thats not the way.

"Tomorrow Were gonna find a place to live"

That shows that he doesn't want to die anymore. that he wants to live, and the "Fuck the World" Is just saying, "Who cares what other people think? This is my life"

Ya know?

DISCLAIMER I have just obtained a copy of Justin Furstenfeld's book Crazy Making. It's not very detailed, but it contains all the lyrics to all current (The Answers - Approaching Normal) Blue October songs, and his inspiration behind them. As I said, it's not very detailed, but it's his words on every Blue October song that is in the book. I know everyone interprets a song differently from everyone else, but having the original intent behind the song will be helpful to people who don't fully understand a song. Also, any grammatical errors are not made by me, I'm putting down Justin's words exactly how he writes them. So yea... enjoy :)

Tomorrow: "I'd experiment to see wut/how each dose differed the writing. The creations or songs from then on, meant by any means necassary"
