Galaxies Lyrics
When you sing
When you sing
Stars fill up my eyes
Galaxies...
Pour down my cheeks
Galaxies…
They flood the street
Galaxies...
When we dance
When we dance
Eels and sea grass float on by
I’m ten thousand leagues...
Beneath the sea
I'm ten thousand leagues…
Beneath the green
Ten thousand leagues...
When we kiss
When we kiss
Bears and boulders vibrate through the air
Gravity...
Is dead you see
No gravity…
All I need...
Is beating red
No gravity…
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)
When you sing
Stars fill up my eyes
Pour down my cheeks
Galaxies…
They flood the street
Galaxies...
When we dance
Eels and sea grass float on by
Beneath the sea
I'm ten thousand leagues…
Beneath the green
Ten thousand leagues...
When we kiss
Bears and boulders vibrate through the air
Is dead you see
No gravity…
All I need...
Is beating red
No gravity…
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)
No gravity (no, no, no, no, no, no, no gravity)

It's great. The chorus is lovely and the change of dynamics is really uplifting. It's clearly about a romance, one that's brilliant and strong. When they're together it seems like even the laws of physics can be broken - "No gravity". They can be below the sea, or even up in the sky.
This song is about passion. A connection, and the energy that flows through everything.
There is an element of sadness to it though - a longing that comes from a human desire to be free; to love, to connect, and the vastness of this energy sometimes isolates us. "Galaxies flood down my cheeks" speaks to the fact that the scale of this energy is immeasurable - it lives in a tear.
The things that happen when they sing, dance, and kiss defy gravity or bend the rules of nature as we know them; they are no longer constrained by the confines of "gravity"
"Gravity" is a metaphor for one's insecurities; feeling "tied down" by fear, etc.
"Gravity Is dead you see No gravity All I need Is beating red." - i.e. needing to let go of fear and follow love. This song is remarkable.
I love the fact that in the cd book she has exclamation marks after Galaxies! It makes me think she is Really Excited about love and makes me so excited because of it.
i love this song, its so mellow. it lets you forget everything.
i love how it is so simple that it is intricate as hell. love is a good thing.
I really like this song a lot. The only problem I have with it is when she says she is "10,000" leagues beneath the sea. A league is almost 3.5 miles, so that is around 35000 miles beneath the sea...which is about 27,000 miles into space on the other side. But maybe that is what she meant! The book "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" refers to the distance traveled while under the sea and not the actual depth.
Anyway, "Year of Meteors" is definitely one of my favorite albums I've discovered this year and this is my favorite song on that album.
I feel horrible, I forgot about Laura Veirs for awhile. I heard this on someone's myspace, and it's an amazing song. I don't understand why she isn't more mainstream yet, her voice is quite soothing and emotional.
Amazing song. Definitely pure romance, yes. Just lovely.
