Face of God Lyrics
I'm drained but aching for more
and the devil inside
is reading the words of the saddest poem
to be engraved on the stone of my grave
I'd kill to share your pain
(and carry the shame)
and sell my soul for you just to say:
I dream what you're dreaming
and feel what you're feeling
loves our shadow on the wall
with the face of God
Nothing will be enough
for the ones who keep on stumbling
in the garden of withering trust
with out the courage to leave
Oh, I'd take my life
for your kiss
(grant me my wish)
and lose it all
to take you across the abyss
I dream what you're dreaming
and feel what you're feeling
loves our shadow on the wall
with the face of God
You dream what I'm dreaming
and see what I'm seeing
loves our shadow on the wall
with the face of God
Labrynth in the shape of a heart
loves secret architecture
I find myself to be lost
in the arms of your fate
I'd kill to share your pain
(please let me stay)
and sell my soul for you
just to say love's name in vain
agian and agian
I dream what you're dreaming
and feel what you're feeling
loves our shadow on the wall
with the face of God
you dream what I'm dreaming
and feel what I'm feeling
loves our shadow on the wall

i so love this song...i take it as he yearns for the person soo much as to want to share their bad parts. and the shadows...i take that as sexual symbolism
Umm, all the lyrics to the song aren't here.
one my favorite songs off the new cd(which is incredible). one of the best vocal job by ville and beautiful pre chorus. all in all an amazing song
Great drum intro! The melodies turn out to be crap though, and the song has poor lyrics.
this song carries a mixed message cat figure it out
RazorbladeKiss6677 is right. Go see her version [even if it's got some punctuation difficulties ;) ] Oh, and virtual, you've been saying over several songs from Dark Light that the melodies are shit, but why? (No offense, just curious.)
"loves our shadow on the wall with the face of God" (I here "a shadow" but eh)
Remember, this is HIM folks - tales of true love, wherein those involved are often portrayed as becoming one. Love binds them - thus "our" - and love takes on "the face of God" since it practically acquires divine status uniting two beings.
Further proof of the "fusion" symbolism: "You dream what I'm dreaming and see what I'm seeing" & "I find myself to be lost in the arms of your fate"
Take note, the "lost" theme returns: "Labrynth in the shape of a heart loves secret architecture" indicating that the "becoming one" confuses Man as humans are essentially (philosophically) forever alone.
What's really tricky is the "love as a shadow" part - it can have SO many interpretations... [Blows my mind... sorry for the verbosity :'( ]
I have a loose interpretation of this song to share, I wonder if anybody agrees with me. My friend and I have discussed this; she's currently studying witchcraft (the real thing, not some fad) and reckons a lot of this album can be related to some ideas in that. Basically:
The idea is that although often love is viewed as selflessness, in reality it causes one to become more selfish and less spiritual. As though romantic love is a false idol, in a sense. So in this song "I'd kill to share your pain and sell my soul for you just to say" demonstrates how the speaker is willing to do amoral things purely for love, and the idea of selling his soul shows how little spirituality there really is in love. Likewise, "Love's our shadow on the wall with the face of God", I think represents how although the couple believe their love to be equal to a religion or spirituality, in actuality it is merely a shadow. It has the face of God for this reason: they view it as a religion and in doing so actually are neglecting real spirituality and morality.
Just so ya know, personally I'm agnostic but I think a lot of the album has some love versus spirituality themes in it. All very interesting. I'd love to hear Valo's inspiration to see how far off the mark I am!
yea, what madel said...?
Silverdew, truly hadn't thought of that. Even if I don't agree with all of it, some of it does ring true: a song is the reflection of the writer; since Valo is getting older, he must be getting into a more psychological approach to love rather than a "hormonal" one, so it's entirely credible to read such a divestment into the song.
