The Studded Cinctures Lyrics
the studded cinctures were a band
from gloomy ann harbor, michigan
and they wrote just for you
these irrelevant tunes
and with each heart-wrenching, fictitious wail
you'd swear they sang your life in veracious details
the tears trickle down your face
your skinny arms begin to flail
you can catch them any day of the week
at the legion hall down the street
in your unromantic town
they're guaranteed to bring you down
and as the clumsy singer takes the stage
he whips the mic in an ardent way
and now the girls begin to blush
never had they've been so terribly touched
by such an illiterate bum
o won't you say what you mean!
give us a moment of offering
perhaps a pinch of your views
we love the second-rating, the repetition
and the metaphors stripped of all gail
with a handful of pomade in hair
he shoots a pitifully pouty stare
at the nurtured audience
and this is easing his conscience
hustling and taking knee with brow in hand
he shrieks the works of another man
a standing ovation!
vulnerable child, you've been taken advantage of by such a carnivorous bum
from gloomy ann harbor, michigan
and they wrote just for you
these irrelevant tunes
and with each heart-wrenching, fictitious wail
you'd swear they sang your life in veracious details
the tears trickle down your face
your skinny arms begin to flail
at the legion hall down the street
in your unromantic town
they're guaranteed to bring you down
and as the clumsy singer takes the stage
he whips the mic in an ardent way
and now the girls begin to blush
never had they've been so terribly touched
by such an illiterate bum
give us a moment of offering
perhaps a pinch of your views
we love the second-rating, the repetition
and the metaphors stripped of all gail
he shoots a pitifully pouty stare

" All of these singers with their studded belts who have never been unfaithful or wrong or have never told a lie in their life. I'm sick of singers not telling the whole truth. I've never seen the singer of a band have trouble with girls. It's a complete farce. They want to appear lonely, deep, and dark. They want to come off heartbroken. It sells records. Throw on a black shirt and grow your hair over your eyes, you know? People need to start writing songs about how they completely have ruined a lover’s life by promising them a future and then throwing it all away. " -Brandon Reily, in a 2004 interview [https://web.archive.org/web/20070611211107/http://www.mammothpress.com/index.php?area=readinterview&pid=20]
this sort of seems like a diss song to me.
"he whips the mic in an ardent way"
the song just screams taking back sunday to me.
I agree, I.are.scientist. It's obvisouly about your typical scene band.
"he shrieks the works of another man a standing ovation!"
Thats verry true in terms of how some people get so much credit for something they didn't even write.
i wish more people wrote rhymes and melodies like this guy.
It makes me laugh when people say a song sings their life, just like the Studded Cinctures, because they obviously have no clue what this song means. Definitely a dis song for the general scene/emo band population and people who listen to 'em.
its a bit hypocritical. i dont think it is anti-emo/scene population song. well mainly cause of the illiterate bum line. as most emo bands use ridiculously complicated language. however, I do think its more about the whole screamo scene?
Brandon Reilly said in some interiew that the song is about teens/ people going to see their favorite band, but then not really doing anything because it it's not "place whatever word here" to move around or dance to your favorite song. The interview's on mtvU.com...
I don't think Nightmare of You is "dissing" emo/scene/any other band. I think they're describing how much music means to people, and how every lyric means something different to everyone, and how silly it all is. :)
I think it's about the "scene" kids how they flock to shit bands with "illeterate bums" as the singers/song writers. And the kids don't really understand the music they are just going along with it because it is deemed cool. and/or How other bands don't write their own lyrics yet still they get "a standing ovation!" from the scene kids.
Yeah, but it's definatley dissing some sort of scene/band etc I love Brandon Reilly. His lyrics are beautiful
