The Purple Bottle

this is my new favorite song. such a great album.

i think it's about being extremely infatuated with someone. and celebrating that.

I love this song. Its about being in love with someone, definately. Animal Collective are amazing at being cryptic yet at the same time really transparent, aren't they?

This song is so fun to listen to, I think it's my current favourite song off Feels.

Incidentally, does anyone know who or what Khalana is? I figured it was a name, but it doesn't appear anyone ever was named that or something? I mean, when both behindthename.com and wikipedia fail ya you know that name's gone to like 2 people in the past thousand years.

It IS apparently a town in Iraq, though! Something tells me he's not singing about that, though. It WOULD make a hella twist to find out this was another war song, though, wouldn't it?

I always find myself jumping up and down when this song comes on. Especially the "You get that, whoo" part. That part's really fun.

The drums in the beginning definitely sound like his beating heart.

His obsession (or infatuation) is causing him to speak extremely fast. I also believe that his obsession is causing him to feel nauseous: "Make me sick sick sick to kiss you and I think that i would vomit". Then he says: "Crush high then i go and take some pills Cause i cant do all of my dos and still feel ill". I would say that the 'crush high' is making him feel sick, so he takes medicine to make himself feel better so the high will last longer.

When the songs says, "Sometimes you're quiet and sometimes I'm quiet..." the tone of the song sounds nervous- like the feeling you get when you can't think of anything to say because you are so nervous.

Then during and after the part: "Can I tell you that you are the purple in me?..." He speaks slower maybe because he wants tell the person how he feels without sounding too insane.

Then at the end when he starts with, "the crush high...," the way it is sung also makes him sound really giddy to give a better idea of what the crush feels like.

Is it not one of the great love songs of our time? I'd hazard to say so...

On mood rings, the color for "in love" is purple. I wonder if that's where purple comes into this song?

I don't think the ending is necessarily about being on coke. He uses the term "crush high" and it made me think of being a kid, and when you have a crush on somebody, and you get those butterflies in your stomach and your heart races around them even if nothing's going on. So when he meets this girl, he's saying he's surprised that he feels that way around her, because he thought he had crushed all he could...etc. I don't know about the pills. I'm still thinking on that one. But I guess that's my take.

As for "I wear a coat of feelings and they are loud" those are definitely the right lyrics. You can clearly hear them in the acoustic version someone posted a link to on YouTube. I think they make a lot of sense. It's like describing colors as being loud, I like to think of the feelings as being colors on a coat, and they're bright and vibrant, etc. because he's in such a good mood around this person. As opposed to being darker or more subdued colors.

he is saying someitmes he doesnt get that natural "high" from the crush he has. so instead he goes and takes some pills for a high.

Can i just say this song means more to me than anyone could understand. This is the first animal collective song i ever heard. Now i am a Huge fan. But my Bestfriend introduced me to this song/ band. I loved it immediately.

The lyrics connected to the relationship i have wih her... perfectly. the whole part about living together made me think of our future together. beside every sweet word said that described her, the part about a "crush" high meant even more. At this time this girrl and i got into snorting preciption drugs. and everytime i listened to this i was spending all my time with her. geting this "crush high", and "touching her hand" but it was all i wanted.

And all of the talk of starting their own family,makes me think of my future and how i cant see it without this girl.

We are closer than anyone could understand, but she doesn't understand how much i love her. She truly is perfect to me in every way.

I only wish she didnt have a boyfriend, and we could be together. Soon as i man up to tell her how i feel.
