Guiding Star Lyrics
When everything you own is lost
And every friendship has its cost;
Your rolling stone has gathered moss
And all your clouds cover the sun
And all your karma has undone
Remember you're my number one.
Hey! You're my guiding star;
I do know who you are,
You're my guiding star.
Don't you think you've heard this song before?
Jesus Christ was knocking at my door
Kinda like the way he wears his hair.
Kinda like the way he walks on air.
Could his golden halo
Be the sun we all know?
And every friendship has its cost;
Your rolling stone has gathered moss
And all your karma has undone
Remember you're my number one.
I do know who you are,
You're my guiding star.
Jesus Christ was knocking at my door
Kinda like the way he wears his hair.
Kinda like the way he walks on air.
Could his golden halo
Be the sun we all know?

This song's not about Jesus. It's about the band Big Star, and bandleader Alex Chilton.
The Jesus reference is an allusion to the song "Jesus Christ" on Big Star's Third record, a song that TF also covered.
Considering how everyone and their dog thinks Bandwagonesque is a direct ripoff/perfect homage to the power-pop sounds of Big Star, it's hardly surprising that Gerry Love would pen this ode to his guiding star.
I had never thought about it but it's true. He did have a cool hair style.
Beautiful little song. The 'wears his hair' line is hilarious. The last line is just downright beautiful.
Beautiful song. did not even realize they were referring to Jesus. That's a trip. To "pt", I would say that this is about Jesus, not so much the religion that came after him. hard to knock Jesus. All loving and non-judgmental.
religion has no place in rock N roll
Shame. Clearly the Star had a ton of potential....guess realized, just not by as many people as their music was worthy of.
@pt Tell that to Simple Minds. It took me longer than it should have to realise a lot of their material was about religion. Book Of Brilliant Things indeed.
