Omission Lyrics

[Section A]
Omit myself (take myself from your eyes)
Omit myself (take myself from your eyes)
Omit myself (take myself from your eyes)
Omit myself (take myself from your eyes)

Omit myself as a favour for God (all my rights are everyone's enemy)
Suffer fate 'cause it's the only lift you've got (all my rights are everyone's enemy)
Dedicating all of before to now (all my rights are everyone's enemy)
Emphasizing these things you wont allow

[Repeat A]

[Section B]
Never now we need the other (centralize the force of rot)
In your life I'll take my cover (echoing what is not)
Never now we need the other (centralize the force of rot)
In your life we take our cover (echoing what is not)

Going nowhere (take myself from your eyes)
Going nowhere (take myself from your eyes)

Going nowhere's the only clear shot (all my rights are everyone's enemy)
At being somewhere the fates think you're not (all my rights are everyone's enemy)
Somewhere's whole to divide any way you want (all my rights are everyone's enemy)
Faking now faking who you are

[Section C]
Never now we need the other (centralize the force of rot)
In your life I'll take my cover (echoing what is not)
Never now we need the other (centralize the force of rot)
In your life we'll take our cover (echoing what is not)

Never now I need the other (and if you're suffering a lot)
In your life we'll take our cover (try being someone you're not)
Never now I need the other (and if you're suffering a lot)
In your life I'll take our cover (try being someone you're not)

I think John is having a conversation with himself (along with Josh's vocals) which keeps swinging from one idea to a second. The first idea perhaps is that he thinks others will be better off if he "omits himself" ("all my rights are everyone's enemy"). Then the second idea is that, no, "never now we need the other", i.e. people are better off if they relate to others. Then he introduces a little message - that you shouldn't fake who you are. (?)

This is really such a great song. I think John is saying that you have to accept who you are and what your fate is. "Going nowhere's the only clear shor, at being somewhere the fates think you're not." You can only avoid fate by not doing anything.

I think at the beginning, when he says "Omit myself (take myself from your eyes) Omit myself as a favor to God" it almost sounds like, "No one wants me, not even God, so I might as well get rid of myself."

And then by the end, it is like a revelation of how important fate really is. This song is amazing, I love the chord progession.

i believe this song has a lot to do with addiction, and how you can overcome it. it being a song behind the movie bob and the monster reinstated that idea for me. i believe "omission" is him finally surrendering to addiction and giving up his own will to the hands of god. you must truly surrender to a god of your understand when trying to beat addiction as well as understand you are fully powerless in controlling your own will. "going nowheres the only clear shot" reiderates that since it shows you have to learn you cannot control everything and you must leave your will and fate up to god. "dedicating all of before to now" shows our past lead us to exactly where we are right now. it also shows how we must use our past and understand our past is what leads us to this present moment right here and right now. without or past no matter how good or bad, we may not have learned or been shown what we needed to that led us where we were today. "emphasizing things we wont allow" as well as "echoing what is not" shows how we must truly attempt everyday to remind ourselves how to live the correct way, or we just end up making the same mistakes. i also tie this into the line "try being someone youre not," because in addiction, our thinking brought us to the drink or the drug every single time. we must try to get out of ourselves and sometimes being someone we arent to get out of our own mindsets because they bring us back to the same place over and over again. lastly we must always "centralize the force of rot" because if we cannot centralize what led us to addiction and self harm for so long in the first place, we will never know what is causing this illness of mind, body, and spirit in us and are more likely to repeat. also we must realize what is bothering us on a daily basis or we may be led back to the same ways. we must become self aware. -----this is just my opinion on the song, but i believe truly in my heart that it is about addiction. being in recovery from drugs & alcohol myself, this song hit me in the soul SO hard when i was first getting clean and could finally feel again that i knew there was something about it and when i looked at the lyrics it confirmed that for me. i dont know john nor have i found any evidence from his interviews, but knowing both sides of the coin and the addiction/recovery aspects of this as well as how it was used in the trailer for the bob forrest movie about his addiction and his recovery i have a feeling this is what its about. plus it strikes me in my soul so hard and at the time in my life in early recovery i truly understood it in a way worss cannot describe, and it overcame my spirit and mind and showed me the way to do it. one love, -ross

"Going nowhere's the only clear shot, at being somewhere the fates think you're not" These lyrics speak to me. The only way to avoid fate is to do nothing at all.

Omitting oneself to avoid choices? To avoid "these things you wont allow"?

To avoid one's dependence on the other?

My Opinion

Josh and Johns' voices compliment and contrast each other's perfectly. This song gives me feelings of sadness, guilt, but also hope. That's one of the reasons I love John's music so much, there is always a glimmer of hope in the sad songs, and a glint of sadness and reality in the happier ones. He has extraordinary talent, and I am honored to be on this earth at the same time as him. Long live John Frusciante!!
