I ♥ this song. I can't explain it though, but I love it.
this is my favorite song by them; it just sums up life for me. i took my username from it. the first song i had heard by the academy is..., it made me fall in love.
I absolutely love this song. I feel like every The Academy Is... song is always written so precisely that if you change ONE WORD... the whole meaning of the song would change.
I think this song is about fakes and identity searching. "The Author" I believe is yourself. You write your own book (aka- your life). "he may seem familiar because he looks like your mirror" totally gave away the whole author thing... i think that is the best line in the whole song.
Continual repetition of words like "actor", "mirror", "stranger" all help to suggest the idea of identity/identity searching.
The song may also have a hint of religion. Demons are mentioned and your maker is mentioned too.
the author is yourself, "the search has begun/ this is page one" is basically showing the start of every person's life, when they start to find out who they really are and show the rest of the world that person. the part about the lying is saying that you may have been trying to fit in with certain peoples or have been trying to change who you are so it has a certain effect/gain. the part about the mirror is showing that you may see yourself as something, but no matter how much you alter your image you'll always be the same person and you'll never achieve complete and total change into something that is completely different from yourself. the song just shows you that you should always be yourself and stick with your ideas and stand up for what you believe in, instead of trying to be something that you are not, because you'll just end up lonely if you do that.
