Repeating Yesterday Lyrics
this is what i have become
what is love without sacrifice
my tears hold no weight
if my commitment is only failure
each day i am born again to be
a child in the eyes of love
repeating yesterday
drain me of my very essence
to form again what lasts

this is a great song. one of the best from shadows are security. im thinking that this song i pretty much a cry to god. What is love without sacrifice? its not love. if you really love god and hunger for his presence, what is giving up something to get you closer to him? The last two lines is just asking god to drain me of me. for you to increase, lord, i must decrease. form again what lasts. we dont last. its the lord who lasts. thats what i got> bubby bop.

It bothers me when people are so single minded about a 'christians music'. Not everything they do is about god, there may be some things about her/he but it all comes down to music as an interpretation of emotion and thoughts. These people do have feelings they want to express, not just praise for what they may believe in. I believe this song to be about understanding how to forgive and to really love in your life after knowing the path you were on was definetly not worth taking.
I believe that is the beautiful thing about As I Lay Dying. Though they are a Christian band, their music can be interpreted in so many ways and goes beyond religion- it ponders life and the struggles of this world. It can be truthfully be enjoyed, appreciated, and understood by just about anyone, no matter what religious standpoint if any at all.

Actually "tears hold no weight" can mean that his tears aren't enough to forgive him of his sins.

Anything about love is about sacrifice. God is love, when I hear the words what is love without sacrifice I see Christ sacrificing His divine/human life as our sacrifice. Anyone who knows Christs words there is no greater love than this to lay down ones life for his friends. knows love pretty much equals sacrifice. Love isn't just emotion, yes that is part of it, but as our great teacher (Aposlle Paul) knows love is never selfish. Much of what it means in this song I think... is that constant surrender to turn and love stronger than before and to never be satisfied. We repeat yesterday when we don't learn and build on the foundation to love. Its like our salvation, there is no one time commitment but a constant surrender to God. If there is no surrender no sacrifice we might as well be repeating yesterday.

This song is about loveing God. Most people, I'm not saying all, but most people say they love God so much and they are close to them, but they wont give 10 seconds up to tell God they love Him, or Thank you for another day. It kind of makes me sick...No, it makes me completely sick. I could only imagin him stairing down from his kindom with a single tear that would shake the world.

this is kind of like the Praise ballad for Shadows Are Security, just how Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier was for Beneath The Encasing of Ashes/Frail Words Collapse. Lyrically, almost the same idea too.

the theme of this song is forgiveness. when it says,
"my tears hold no weight, if my commitment is only failure, then each day I am born into a child in the eyes of love."
it basically means that you don't have to worry because each time you fail and come to God for forgiveness, he will make you reborn, and you can repeat yesterday again...

why arent there many comments to this...this song is one of the best in the album.

I have to agree with White Night. This is def. one of the best songs on Shadows are Security. Incidently, Behind me lies another fallen soldier is one of my fav. songs on Frail Words Collapse. To me this song is about someone who finds himself always repeating yesterday's mistakes crying out to God for renewal.

see? im not the only one. thanks nwynia. behind me lies another fallen soilder is also one of, if not favorite song in that album. i like the remake of that much better tho. i was completely wow-ed by it. i think peopel should appreciate this song more. theres a mellow tone that brings up the mood and the release and collapse, if you will. perfectly done.
i see this song not so much about god, although you are all perfectly correct that it brings up many religious aspects, but i want to see it as something a little more personal.
