History Lyrics

Dear friends of this academy
Romeo is bleeding to death
To see a friend bleed to death
What for
Some kind of metaphor that i can't see
So I'll drink until I see it

This sky will make me sick
So I'll give up on you
I'll give up on this
This sky will make me sick
So I'll give up on this
I'll give up on you

Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for one last salute
And bleed this skyline dry
Your history is mine

You want to hold me up an bring me down
You want to hold me up and break me down

But I don't care for your sweet scent
Or the way you want me
For that I want you
I don't care for your sweet scent
Or the way you want me
For that I want you

[2x]
Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for one last salute
I'll bleed this skyline dry
Your history is mine

It's all mine...
It's all mine...
It's all mine...

[2x]
Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for one last salute
I'll bleed this skyline dry
Your history is mine.

well in the music video its got miners rioting against the police with media coverage so i doubt this has to do with boy girl love, i love how every song gets interpreted as a long song these days. You can only write so much about breakups.

This is a song about the 80's welch miners fighting for there rights. The long bow comment is right. That is the historical refrence and the "two" finger salute is the british way to flick people off. The equal to the middle finger. They use that because that is what the welch coal miners used to do to the police and the mediators of the dispute. I am unclaer what caused the riots, but I know that is was sucha big deal that there was no coal being produced for about a half a year.

This song went out to all the coal miners in wales. check out the video and you will see.

The album has got everything, and considering the 2nd is always the hardest they've done a brilliant job.

This is about Matts heavy drinking of the past and some tough times, it's supposed to be "An old Welsh drinking song"...It also touches on the Media cover the band has got at times before too...

"Raise your fingers for one last salute" - Brilliant!

Like Beni said its about media coverage and the problems matt has been through I love the line:

'But I don't care for your sweet scent Or the way you want me more than I want you'

How the smell of the alcohol calls to you and how that it consumes you rather than you comsuming the alcohol when it gets out of control.

@PorcelainPrincess Sky is definitely referring to Skyy vodka I think.

I was just thinking about the lines;

"Archers in your arches Raise your fingers for one last salute"

And I think this may actualy come from a historical base. The band are Welsh (duh), where the longbow was originaly created. The longbow, in the English army, was the source of the classic two finger gesture (the two finger salute), which was originaly directed towards the French as a way of showing that you still had them (they tended to cut of the fingers of bowmen who they captured) and were going to use them to kill a few people now.

Other than the Romeo lines, I can see no other links like that though.

Some of the lines here are wrong, its: "Dear friends of this academy Oh Romeo is bleeding to death To see a friend bleed to death what for, some kind of metaphor that i can't see?"

"AND bleed this skyline" not "I'll bleed this skyline"

Anyway, beautiful song. You can really hear the emotion in matt's voice and tell how personal the song is to him (I agree its about past alcohol problems).
