Dead Tree (English) Lyrics
Heres is some water for the dead tree
I see your reflection in the dirty water
Dreams and aspirations Your ideals in the big sky
Passionate Red
The one I loved so much
Ideals being sweeter than candy are just ideals
No one wants the present
Point your finger
Goodbye
I feel love on my forehead at gunpoint
Even the child with the red coat swallows her tears as she faces reality
Why? Why? Over and Over
It will never heal
Why? Why? Over and Over
My dead heart
Love, tenderness, freedom, and peace
I see your reflection in the dirty water
Dreams and aspirations Your ideals in the big sky
The one I loved so much
Point your finger
Goodbye
Even the child with the red coat swallows her tears as she faces reality
It will never heal
Why? Why? Over and Over
My dead heart

I'm not completely sure what this song means, I know it is a song of reflection, just generally looking back at one's life. Really beautiful and passionate.
"Here is some water for the dead tree I see your reflection in the dirty water Dreams and aspirations Your ideals in the big sky" Kind of trying to force life, or thought, or imagination into something that just can't take it. And everything they wanted being far away.
i think the song is (like you said) looking back at life, and getting ready for a reality, (kinda like a new adventure) but not really wanting to let go of the past. it's so beautiful.
This song to me is about how a tree can last so many years and sometimes without water, The tree in this song (which I'm assuming is love) couldn't last. No matter how much you nourish something - sometimes your own reflection or someone else's staring back at you is too realistic and you don't want to move on (as said above)
I wont get into anymore detail, because only the vocalist knows beyond that.
I wonder why does kyo makes himself bleed almost everytime he plays It live, heard somewhere this song has something to do with the Hiroshima bomb.
The PV is an anti-war statement, in my opinion.
i love this song!!
YEY English! I wish I could speak Japanese so I wouldn't have to scrounge around for these things...
Personally I think the song does have a sort of despairing theme to it. Heck, the tree used to be beautiful, then it died and it can't be healed...
I wonder what the tree symbolizes... like miyabi said, it could be love but for some reason I have the feeling it's something else.
I dunno, I'm terrible with lyric interpretation. :B
At first when I read the lyrics, and between the way the song sounds. I thought the idea was someone committing suicide. That they were tired of facing reality, and/or lost someone they loved. I figured that dead tree represented them killing themself in the winter, when the trees were bare like they were dead.
However, the music video seems to be about WW2 and the bombing of Hiroshima. So I think dead trees is in reference to, how the US validated killing or maiming people. Saying, they needed to kill an area of forest so they could see where people were. Like, what happened with Agent Orange. I think both versions work.
i think the WW2 idea is true. ive read that somewhere else. i dunno wether it was sumthing one of the band said or just someones comments but i agree violet_yoshi that both ideas work
In an interview, the members stated that the song was about 9/11.
That would also make sence.
