Everything Will Be Alright Lyrics
omg i can't believe that ANYONE views this song as optimistic. jooolay is clearly correct in her explanation of this song. Brandon Flowers isn't the kind of guy to make his songs literal. He always incorporates some sort of satiric/sarcastic/sardonic message that gives the song a special meaning. For instance, "All These Things That I've Done" isn't about what he's done in life, it's about his plea to God for a relationship with him and answers to his neverending questions. "Midnight Show" isn't about something sexual like it sounds, it's actually about murder, just as Brandon explained when he described his "murder trilogy" of "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" "Midnight Show" and another song not on this cd. ALL OF HIS SONGS MEAN SOMETHING, and this isn't just some cheesy song in which he's so happy that he's found this girl and assumes everything will be alright. Conversely, he's saying it won't be alright, but the constant love for this girl has driven him to insanity, and all he can POSSIBLY DO ANYMORE is just say to himself, "Everything will be alright..." So there. It's sarcastic. It's bitter. It's emotional. Flowers is a genius. Let it be known.
sam
is there a "like" button on these things? haha. i like what you said, sam. you seem to know your Killers shit.

@FlowersandBellamy This needed to be said. Most of his songs, if not all, are very in depth. And yes he is a lyrical genius.

@FlowersandBellamy ugh like you’re entitled to your opinion but I take the Bob Dylan philosophy that songs mean whatever they mean to the person hearing it.

sorry guys but i'm going to have to disagree on this song. maybe it's just the bitterness in love that i possess in myself that makes me see the song this way, but no matter i find that it is a hopeless love song because the love in question can never happen...or it has ended.
So take your suitcase, cause I don't mind And baby doll, I meant it every time
I think that it's symbolizing that she's leaving him...their relationship has ceased. and also how he says that he "MEANT" it everytime. he's reassuring her, almost arguing saying that he REALLY meant it everytime he said he loved her...like a plea for her to stay.
also, i think the repeating of "everything will be alright" is more of a prayer for himself. like repeating it enough will make it true. it's almost sarcastic...and definitely bitter. in fact the whole tone of the song seems dreary and dark, like a funeral.
so i can see how the first listen to the song it seems to be rather optimistic, but i think brandon's message is a more bitter, sarcastic one.
ohh and i love this song. brandon's a genius.
I agree.
I agree.
some Killers' music are like Cure's music. I think Brandon flower was a fan of the Cure. I watched an interview where brandon says he loved Robert Smith and was always fascinated by his hair.
Ok, I believe that the meaning behind this song is in the bridge. It has to do with him finding this woman, unlike any other he has met, kind of a "love at first sight" story. He is so surprised to find someone so beautiful, however something happened to them. The lines "I never knew, I never knew", signify this. We can only guess what happened, as it is not revealed. I'll break it down, however.
"I wasn't shopping for a doll" - He was not searching for a woman in his life when he found this chick.
"To say the least, I thought, I've seen them all"- He has been with countless amounts of women in the past and he believes he has been with all types of them.
"But then you took me by surprise" - Obviously he meets this wonderful girl.
"I'm dreaming about those dreamy eyes" - Obviously, he's thinking about her
"I never knew, I never knew" - This is where it gets mysterious. What did he not know? What I think is that he has found out that she has another man in her life. She is completely devoted to this man. This drives him mad because he has fallen in love with her as soon as he met her.
"So take your suitcase, cause I don't mind" - He is basically saying "Fuck this, it's not worth the effort. I just want you out of my head since I cannot have you"
"You don't need to compromise" - This tells us that this girl is upset that he wants her out of his life. Hence, the compromise.
"I'm dreaming about those dreamy eyes"- Even after all this, he still thinks about her. She won't leave his thoughts.
"I never knew, I never knew....But it's alright"- He has accepted defeat and says to himself "That's life. It's out of my control, I can't do anything about it"
So that's the bridge. That tells us the story. Now what is interesting, I believe, is that the lyrics at the beginning of the song are the events following those after the bridge. He sets out to find her and wants her to come back with him. Even though he told her that he does not want her in his life, he can't help how he feels and repents to her. Beautiful song.
Mcrae92 and tbarkerisafag pretty much covered it. It's a great song by an exceptionally talented Brandon Flowers. The emotion Flowers puts into the song is perhaps more telling than the lyrics themselves.
I'm surprised no one's commented on this yet. It's one of my favorite songs off the Hot Fuss CD. I just love the mellowness of it. I think it matches with the lyrics: something has gone wrong, it's a disaster, but he thinks it will work out.
"I'm dreaming bout those dreamy eyes.."
I think that it's a sad love story. He's in love with someone but she broke up with him, but he's not going to give up, he's going to look for her even if it takes him all night. But as the song progresses, he comes to terms with the fact that she's gone.."Take your suitcase, I don't mind..." while at the same time kind of thanking her for everything, "I wasn't shopping for a doll...but then you took me by surprise." But he's still clearly upset that it's over...very relatable for anyone who's lost someone they loved....

i really love this song. i can listen to this song forever and not get sick of it.
they've had some problems and he wants to fix them even if they can't be together. And also she was a very "unique" person to him.
He’s saying that since he met this girl that he feels like nothing can go wrong. He was looking to meet anyone special, but he thought he’d never find someone but she’s made him fall head over heels for her “I was out shopping for a doll….” I thik he’s done something wrong and he doesn’t want her to compromise by staying with him if she’s hurting…he loves her too much for that. Everything will be alright because he has had her in his life…..beautiful! I think “I never knew..” means “I never knew I could love someone this much” Love this song!
yeah, it is hard to view this song as optimistic, but i've never really analyzed the lyrics..
