This is a good song, not as good as some of his others but its still amazing. "So many words and they all burn like blood on my tongue.... so many songs and I hate singing every one." Amazing Line.

I don't think Jesse helped write any of this song.
Jesse didn't write any of this. He did backup vocals in one song, It pisses me off when poeple do that. Kevin writes amazing lyrics and in my opinion is better then Brand New could ever be.
actually jonny, jesse is given official credit on this song, cotton crush, and afterparty...
kevin wrote all the tracks though (for which i completely admire him) -- if there's one line i would've guessed to be jesse's, it'd be "I worry that I may never be satisfied" considering he's the infamous jesse lacey who lives in a world of uncertainty and questionable faith...
Sooo...anyone into analyzing this? I can get an idea, it's clearly angry, at best somewhat annoyed, but still not pleased. I guess I get confused on the whole "proving you were a liar" thing. Does he mean that the person he's singing about actually was a liar? Or he wants to believe that they were to give himself a reason to leave said person in his past?
I kind-of get the feeling that this is all about wanting to dislike, or even hate, someone for the purposes of moving on from them. But he can't, because he knows the reasons he has for hating this person are all in his head, and he can't truly believe them or even back them up at all.He says "it was bad for us both", which makes me feel like he knows in his heart that whatever caused things to go bad with him and this other person was because of both of them, because of things that they both did or said to hurt each other. But he wants so badly to give away all of the blame and make it all the other person's fault, in order to make himself feel okay enough to move on without feeling guilty, second-guessing, or looking back.
Yes? No? I'm open to someone completely tearing what I've said apart and correcting me. These are all just theories from yours truly. And this is my first post on songmeanings, which provides even more opportunity for me to be completely and totally wrong. Lemme know!

i think the line "i was consumed with proving you were a liar, but what good would that do? we both know the truth" means that he tried so hard to make himself dislike this person, and maybe even tried incriminating them falsely, but he just can't let go and knows that it's a defense mechanism of his to try to talk himself out of liking this person.
everone else doesn't seem to have a problem with this person, they are likely very likable, but he has special ties, and so he's having trouble making things work.
i didnt think of the "i was consumed..." line like that. It makes sense though. I was just thinking of it as the person was a liar and he spent too much time dwelling on it... but that wouldnt do any good because they both know what happened and dwelling on it wont fix anything.
