I am the one winged bird for flying
Sinking quickly to the ground
See your faith in me subsiding
See you prime for giving in
I give you all that I am

I am the sound of love's arriving
Echoed softly on the sand
Lay your head upon my shoulder
Lay your hand within my hand
I give you all that I am

And I breathe where you breathe
Let me stand where you stand
With all that I am

I am the white dove for a soldier
Ever marching as to war
I would give my life to save you
I stand guarding at your door
I give you all that I am

I am the one winged bird for flying
Sinking quickly to the ground
I am the blind man for a watchdog
I am prime for giving in
I'll show you all that I am

And I breathe so you breathe
Let me stand so you'll stand
With all that I am

i cant believe im the first person to comment on this song, when i listened to this album for the first time it was one that stuck in my mind...i think its about 'rob' trying to be the best he possibly can be in everything, not just songwriting but everyday things

Rob wrote this song after seeing the Passion of the Christ. He said he's not an overly religious person, but the movie itself influenced him. Well, this is what we have. An amazing song with an excellent blend of various instruments.

Does anyone know what that instrument is in the backround that sounds like a middle eastern instrument?

That would be a harp, if we're thinking of the same instrument... unless you mean the xylophone, which plays the intro.

You know, before I read Chris Dixon's comment, i was pretty sure this song was about a girl. Which is unlike me, because I tend to look for Christian influences in songs, cos I'm a Christian. I probably missed it because I knew that Rob isn't religious.

Anyway, I think it could very well be a song of submission to God.

For those of you closed-minded people who refuse to believe that a song could be about Jesus, I think it could also be interpreted to be about a girl. Like, maybe this girl doesn't like him the same way.

It's great how art music can be interpreted different ways.

I think it could also just be about peace and reassurance.

A vibraphone is in the beginning, actually. It rings more as xylophones are more... clinky. Heh.

The harp sounds more oriental to me. I think what you mean by the middle eastern sound is a duduk.

I've got to say that critch48 for someone who admits that he automatically likes to peg a Christian influence onto songs it's funny to hear you call anyone who interpreted it differently closed minded.

Not being religious I can still see the song being about faith. Not just Christian faith (because it's not the be all and end all of faith) but being about the person/god that you see as a rock and a ever present source of strength.

I think that he likes a girl or something and he just feels like everything he is isn't good enough, but he will still give her everything he has and everything he is. He says he's a blindman for a watchdog, and that to me just seems like he feels useless to whoever this person is, maybe it is him and his wife dealing with her autoimmune disease. He feels like he cant do anything to help her, but he still gives her all that he is.
