The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:

Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
This is possibly my favourite song ever, on one level it seems to be about this persons personal relationship with someone who he loves. "Entirely for you" is such a beautiful sentiment and "soon you will see there is much more to me" shows that he is really committed to this person. It also shows how the spree really are the happiest band ever and leads me to think that maybe this is a religious song. That makes sense then with the sparkling in the sky and the appreciation of nature, its a prayed a whole hearted devotion to god. As an Atheist I still find it beautiful and touching and a song even a band with as much originality as the Polyphonic spree will find it difficult to ever beat this.
