Someones in the Wolf Lyrics
Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...
Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...
So glad you could stay
Forever
He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand
You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..
So glad you could stay
Forever
You don't find your way, the way finds you...
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...
Forever
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..
Forever

I think this song is about the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. I know that sounds weird but this is also quite a weird song. Lines like "It hides all the teeth, my dear" or "He steps between the trees, a crooked man There's blood on the blade Don't take his hand" definitely remind me of the fairy tale. It could also about some psycho killing little children......
@OpiumForThePeople The one line is a reference to "There Was A Crooked Man" which is an old english nursery rhyme:

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile. He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse, And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

Crooked is another word for dishonest so it seems like Homme meshed the two fairytales together. The Crooked Man and The Wolf are, in fact, the same person. This person is a cannibal that hunts his prey...
Crooked is another word for dishonest so it seems like Homme meshed the two fairytales together. The Crooked Man and The Wolf are, in fact, the same person. This person is a cannibal that hunts his prey in the woods, kills them, and eats them. It would definitely explain the sound of knives and (supposedly) bones being broken.
@OpiumForThePeople .. I think you're spot on with this one. I love doing indoor biking to this tune

goddammit its fuckin obvious. fuckin 3 different people have said it but always with a "might" thrown in. ITS NOT A FUCKING SUBTLE SONG. It's called "someone's in the wolf". hmmmmm... the wolf ate someone i.e. little red riding hood. In interviews, Homme mentione reading a lot of brother grimm, etc. wihle working on the album. This brilliant twisted ass song is what comes out of it.
The song's themes are both homicidal and faux friendly with the smile, the offered hand, "my dear". "my what big teeth you have"
hope that spelled it the fuck out.
" Once you're lost in twillights's blue You don't find your way, the way finds you... "
I like Hogan's interpretation that it's about sexual predators preying on innocent girls/virginal girls. The song definitely feels very charged with sexual energy. I'm guessing the person involved uses innocent/virgin girls and in a way keeps their innocence with him forever. The big strong heroic woodsman character and the wolf are equated to the same person.
Someone is getting eaten in this song. From 5:19 on, there are sounds of someone sharpening a knife or something.
wow you can hear knives...that is freaky. I hear like an uncorking sound then something being poured too. I think we're all in the wolf. Homme sings us his Lullabies to paralyze the beast so he can cut us out into the real world.
The whole creepy vibe and the slicing of the blade in the end of the song is what makes this band a notch above all others.
Definitely my favourite song on Lullabies. Just can't stop listening to it.
Don't know what this song means, but I like how the lyrics have an almost comical touch to them. The gothic-ness is so OTT (reminds me of We Suck Young Blood by Radiohead).
Pretty wierd song, it's like the 3rd time I listen to it and I have to say I FUCKIN' HATE IT. But, It'll probably grew on my like monsters...like thats knife sound though
I agree with the fairy tale thing. Like a fairy tell gone bad! I saw queens in early April and they opened up with this song. It was really awesome and they kicked ass.
"Gone bad" is not the right expression I think european fairy tales are generally not nice. Sometime very cruel and even sick. For those who don't Little Red Riding Hood: Its about a girl walking through dark woods to visit her grandma. As she arrives she realies that the wolf, whos of course the evil guy had eaten her grandma and is now living in the house. He eats the girl aswell. Then the girl calls an hunter cuts open the stomach of the wolf and gets the girl and her grandma out. And if thats not enough gore: The hunter placesm some stones in the open stomach of the wolf (sic!) and puts him in a well where he drowns (sic!!!). This is the story i think this is based. It's a german fairy tale. If you dont believe me, read it somewhere!!
