Violet Lyrics
The tragic comedy divine
Paints the way to peace of mind,
Leaving shallow lovers far behind.
Past uncertainties combine,
Bringing tears to sleepless eyes.
Memory runs the course of time.
Blood runs cold beyond
The violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
As you throw us away.
We're never enough.
We're drowning in cliches.
So desperate to love,
We're twisting every word they say.
So we sleep through the days.
Within the heat of passion's war,
Lust is spilled upon the floor,
Staining red the wasted metaphor.
The selfish need for something more
Claws in vain at closing doors,
Scarring faces once adored,
Tracing circles in the
Violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
As you throw us away.
Paints the way to peace of mind,
Leaving shallow lovers far behind.
Bringing tears to sleepless eyes.
Memory runs the course of time.
Blood runs cold beyond
The violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
As you throw us away.
We're drowning in cliches.
So desperate to love,
We're twisting every word they say.
So we sleep through the days.
Lust is spilled upon the floor,
Staining red the wasted metaphor.
Claws in vain at closing doors,
Scarring faces once adored,
Tracing circles in the
Violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
As you throw us away.

When I first hear this song I was immediatley reminded of the 80's. I think this song maybe somewhat about a Psych-Ward. "Tracing circles in the Violets Prison for Violent Visions" See thats the part the really sticks with you, "Prison for Violent Visions" Where would you be for violent visions? An asylum type institution.
My second guess was that the protagonist in this story has made their own prison. "Past uncertainties combine, bringing tears to sleepless eyes. Memory runs the course of time. Blood runs cold" Maybe the person was wronged in the past and they just can't put the past behind them so now they've become inprisoned by their thoughts.

this song has to do with 'stuffies(stuffies is short hand for stuff animals)......Ok so as I was saying it's about stuffies. "We're never enough. We're drowning in cliches. So desperate to love, We're twisting every word they say. So we sleep through the days." kids go to school during the day.the stuffies have none to play.adults dont play with them,so they sit alone, theers nothing more to do then sleep. It's a cliche' that ones you love always leave, and only true love you,if they do indeed return.
"Within the heat of passion's war, Lust is spilled upon the floor, Staining red the wasted metaphor" has to do with pets.i know dogs and cats very well and stuff animals are always at war with these two animals, especially when teh kids are at school, and theers no one home to protect them.......time at school is wasted, and teh animals get ears torn off and stuff, thus why the "staining red is a wasted ,metaphor, they cant bleed.
"The selfish need for something more Claws in vain at closing doors, Scarring faces once adored, Tracing circles in the Violet prison for violent visions. And so the broken record plays, As you throw us away."
stufanimals are loyal and love you enternal;ly,but its the same broken record, kids leavea nd come back, they love you for a while and then your tossed in some corner abandoned, and eventually you gte so tattered"they thropw you away"

The start of the song reminds me of the Cure. An awesome song indeed, though.. hmm. ''We're drowning in cliches''
This is by far my favorite song by The Birthday Massacre. The instrumental sounds amazing, and chibi's voice is perfect. I also love the lyrics.
Each time i hear this song and i try and relate it to my personal experiences in life, i get a new interpretation.
"Past uncertainties combine, Bringing tears to sleepless eyes. Memory runs the course of time." This explains someone who is stuck in the past, uncertian about what in the past lead them up to this point where they are so depressed and are kept up at night with their mind running.
"Blood runs cold beyond The violet prison for violent visions. And so the broken record plays" The color violet may symbolize the mind state, which may be a prision for someone with visions of the past. The broken record could symbolize life.
"As you throw us away We're never enough. We're drowning in cliches. So desperate to love, We're twisting every word they say. So we sleep through the days." A person can watch their ex get into a relationship with another girl and then then brake up, and see how he throws her away like he once did to that person. Then she feels how he threw them both away and how they're not enough to appease him. They were so desperate to be in love, like everyone. They become depressed and sleep through the days.
This is such a good song. But I was thinking about the first few lines "The tragic comedy divine Paints the way to peace of mind, Leaving shallow lovers far behind." The word choice is interesting. The "tragic comedy divine" makes me think of The Divine Comedy. I was just thinking that Hell is seemingly the ultimate prison. In The Divine Comedy, Dante paints the way to peace of mind, and salvation. Just an interesting thought. :]
MidnightChaos, thanks for sharing that, thats really interesting :D
and Rabitthowl, no, just no.
why are the lyrics on this site often wrong?! it's traing circles in the violet prison for VIOLET visions at least that's what it says in the flappy thing in the cd case.
"The tragic comedy divine" tragedy = a story that ends bad comedy = a story that ends good (not the humorous sense) they refeer to love relationships, which often does both good and bad to you
"Paints the way to peace of mind" love is a prerrequisite to peace of mind or, the reason someone looks for a relationship is to achieve peace of mind becouse it's like an ought before nature and before society
"Leaving shallow lovers far behind" people who don't have a 'deep'/true/beautiful love, are far from peace of mind
"Within the heat of passion's war Lust is spilled upon the floor" you have a lot of lust but it's wasted in each "not that good" relationship
"Staining red the wasted metaphor" the lust stains red, like blood (i liked that :D) but don't know what is "wasted metaphor" :/
