I think the main point of the song is the oft-repeated line: "Hold on to people, they're slipping away." He's saying that, through everything, what we most need in the world is to keep connecting to others. It can be hard, in a world so full of hate--because you have to live defensively, almost. He's saying that we have to hold onto what humanity is left in the world, hold on to others. He's talking about the fractured way we live our lives, the disconnected pieces of the world working towards different goals every day.

Most of all, this song is about unity, I think.

It's funny, in life we meet hundreds of people, from school, on vacations, from family, from college, from the mall, in life we get to know and interact with hundreds of people who may be not friends, but they make us have a good time. The truth is that in life there are very few people that will stay with us, and few REAL friends. The message of the song is that we most hold on to the people we love, because when you less expect it, They Slip Away...

Concerning the meaning of the song, I guess it tells us to just appreciate life as it is and live it to the fullest instead of always worrying about certain things or worse, letting it turn into monotony. At least that's what I get from this beautiful song, and it's an wonderful message. Also have to say I love the video clip of this song - so gorgeous...

This song made me feel alot happier when my girlfriend broke up with me, helping me to concentrate on the better things in my day and my life. It is a beautiful song and I'm absolutely in love with it!

I don't think it's quite suicide, I think it's about forgetting about the people that mean the most to you because you're focusing on all the meaningless things in life. It's telling you not to focus on all the bad things in life, focus on the good things and important things instead.

This song is helping me get through my ketamine withdrawal. I feel like i'm being skinned alive, because the pain is so bad i don't want to live- but i can see the good of it, because when i don't feel the pain, i am the happiest and most insightful i've ever been.

I think you people think too much personal things into it, yet you are right on some parts, but I think this song can mean a lot of things - including the things you said. I think it is meant to mean a lot of things. In my opinion it says: You will encounter both shit and good things, shit may come in a bigger dose than good things, but you should fight. People and things will likely to slip away, but try to hold onto them. Your loved ones can get you through this, but you might except some kindness from the wrong person.

This song helped me not to give up in a very hard time in my life, probably the hardest I ever had. I think "Slipping Away" is providing so much optimism, without being cheesy or unrealistic in any way. It finally helped me to start over in life. Great song. :)

Absolutely beautiful track, really moving and a message to, well everyone really. Its telling people that there is ALWAYS something good in life, you just have to look for it. It applies to everyone too, whether you're just stressed, or suffering from a breakup or even drug withdrawal, it all makes so much sense and gives a great feeling of hope.
