Mutilated Lips

Haile Sellasie I (aka Ras Tafari) was the emperor of Ethiopia. The rastafarians worshipped him as the messiah. He was not a rastafarian however and did not wish to be worshipped in such a manner. Then he died. Sometimes rastas refer to him as Haile Sellasie "Aye" as in the letter I - instead of saying Haile Sellasie the First. Midget man was an intercontinental ballistic missile developed during the cold war. One might argue that it provoked violence during the arms race.

In reply to Optimus Prime.. Simply because you could not divine the meanings of their song doesn't necessarily mean that there is no meaning. I do agree that this song is either drug-induced, or about a drug-related experience, however. Which means that no one besides the author could possibly decipher the meaning.

Haile Sallase was a big leader in the Rastafari religion, and was even considered as a prophet by some. He spread Rastafari and I think he was the leader of a country in Africa, I can't fully remember.

Midget Man provoking violence, for some reason, reminds me of Napoleon or Hitler.

Though I definitely think there's an overall air of LSD in this song. It even sounds like LSD. But I think there's a possibility that there's more to the song than just that.

But yes, this song is excellent and one of my favorites.

Also, I've tripped pretty hard, but I've never had a hallucinatory midget fight me.

"Mutilated Lips" and "Mr. would you please help my pony" both sound like they could be on the album "were only in it for the money" by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. For those of you who are die hard Ween fans and haven't heard that Frank Zappa album that i mentioned, I definately recommend it. You'll love it. Long live Ween.

What they were going for exactly with this song? I don't know it, and I don't even think I want to know it. To say that it's about drugs and that's it is by far the easiest approach, but I think I do like to see more in it.

"Mutilated lips, give a kiss(...)tentacles expanding in my mind, I'm fine," I really love that part (well, the chorus, haha), because the lyrics are too damn good. I don't think it is complicated at all, the song is about making out with an ugly girl, being in love with an ugly girl, probably while being on drugs. If he is on drugs while kissing, I don't know. The easiest answer would be yes.

A kiss given by mutilated lips makes you think of tentacles. they expand through your mind, the feeling is overwhelming. This could be both a really good thing or a really bad thing, but in this case he seems to say it's just "fine" - It doesn't matter to him.

I am only really giving my interpretation of part of the song, as the full song is probably just about loving a girl. She's ugly, but hey, "I'm fine". Appearance shouldn't matter. It really doesn't make matters any better or worse, it is just a fact.

Now, to return to whether the person getting kissed by "mutilated lips" is on drugs or not, I like to think he's not. But if he is, Ween could be saying drugs make people equal.

I'm thinking too much into this, haha. I really don't know, this is just my train of thoughts...

I've heard that The Mollusk (the cd) in general is based around LSD (Lots of their cds are based on certain drugs, like White Pepper is based around cocaine) So my assumption is that they A: Wrote this song on LSD because it makes no sense and B: Wrote this song about what they were seeing on LSD because that could make a little more sense

Mutilated Lips sounds like a vagina to me. TENTACLES OMFG! I think it's about sex on acid. Then again, "everything is turning brown". Anal sex on acid perhaps? :).

The song is most definitely about a psychedelic experience. The mutilated lips, tentacles, etc., are just the bizarre, indescribable feelings and thoughts that are involved with psychedelic drug use. During the trip, his mind is shifting from images and feelings of tentacles, to Haile Sellase I, to "tap dancing" on the world (a fairly believable trip). I think "take my hand you ugly girl" is saying that he realizes that true beauty is within, and all is beautiful, even an ugly girl. As for the midget provoking violence, I think it is a reference to the song Mourning Glory on the album Pure Guava. In this song, someone (Gener?) is on a (morning glory?) trip talking to pumpkins, and a "little man" is cussing them and berating them for using drugs. Maybe this song is saying that in their early days, they didn't understand drugs as well, used them irresponsibly, and didn't get the right message from it. Maybe they say, "Midget man provoking violence - listen not to what I said" because they now have a better and deeper understanding of psychedelic experience and want to say they were wrong or misguided before. I think this is a very deep song and can be understood a lot better by people who have tripped before.
