Dear Prince we'll miss you and your sexy daring songs. Been a big fan in particular of The Dirty Mind album where this songs features. Im advancing a somehow daring interpretation which has always been my own of this upbeat song. To me there is two one single element that can change everything and is the time when the lady asks the passsing young guy the question 'Are you gay? in a somewhat deeper voice tone and the guy replies 'no, are you?. If i put that exchange toghetet with the fact that uptown is where often hookers or nightcrawlers would hang out (im thinking empty night streets in office areas) and that after the encounter the guy is 'where he always wanna be' i think the floor is open for interpretations on whether this is a first time encounter with a shemale or crossdesser which to me makes the song all muuuuch naughtier and interesting
Well, we all know what the song is about. Prince meets some small minded girl who asks him a stupid question. He turns her around and she ends up sleeping with him. Great song. Lot's of energy. Great attitude in the lyrics. And listen to the individual guitars, obviously both played by Prince. Genius work.
