About someone(man 2) who he(man 1) admires and thinks has everything. But then this really impressive person(man 2) takes the only good thing in this mans(man 1) life and so is even better.

I dont think man2 taking the only good thing in man1's life makes man2 "even better" , it makes him a scumbag. I know 'cos i am that scumbag.

I think he's saying that this man took everything, even his beloved Caroline, but he is still a better man than the greedy bastard.

i don't think man1 necessarily wants to be like man2- more that man2/other people think he (man1) thinks that way, that he is better than man1. man1 knows he's better than the scumbag that is man2 anyway.

this song is one of my fav on the album...

I think this guy takes his girl.. and he looks up to him, so he compensates by behaving like this guy that got his girl so he can level up to him or something in his mind, and he brags about how he gets the same rewards as him and it just took less of a time because he just imitated this guy rather than developing like a healthy person would as a personality.

What connection with "Caroline No" off Pet Sounds?.. Hm.. Girl gets nicked off singer, mourning song ensues.
