Bitter Glass Lyrics

The thought of never knowing
Would kill me just the same
A solitary blossom
Reminders of a friend

What are you saying?
You've got nothing to live for
You're tired and you're broken
You just can't free yourself

And all the words we've spoken
And burried in the sand
The raptured and the broken
The taste of bitter glass

What are you saying?
You've got nothing to live for
You're tired and you're broken
You just can't free yourself
What are you saying?
It's just the thought of rejection
It's pulling you deeper
You justcan't free yourself

Your voluntary loving
Apologies of past
And come around again
The fragments of a reason
The taste of bitter glass

So what are you saying?
You've got nothing to live for
You're tired and you're broken
You just can't free yourself
What are you saying?
It's just the thought of rejection
It's pulling you deeper
You justcan't free yourself

this song is so obviously about drummer Jon Lee.

i think it's sung directly to him. the whole chorus "what are you saying? you've got nothing to live for?" is as if he's talking to him. before jon killed himself he called lead singer grant but he didn't pick up the phone as it was an unknown number. i suppose it's what he would've said if only he had answered.

"reminders of a friend" blatant.

but whatever. i could be wrong. beautiful song though. love it to death

"The thought of never knowing Would kill me just the same A solitary blossom Reminders of a friend"

As the above comment says, this song is about Jon, and Grant even clarified this in an interview. 'The thought of never knowing' refers to never knowing what would've happened had he picked up that phone call - maybe Jon would be with us today? This is a beautiful track indeed, and I think it's the most 'from the heart' track on the album.

this song is just intensified live, i think it may be one of my favourite songs ever

having lived with someone with depression it just reflects so many of my feelings, and things i would like to say to that person

This is obviously wrong, but I can interpret it as a two-sided song about being cheated on and left. "Apologies of past" being the cheater apologizing for their wrong. The chorus, from the point of view of the other half - feeling as if life is over and not worth living. "The thought of never knowing Would kill me just the same A solitary blossom Reminders of a friend" Never knowing that they had cheated would be horrible. Reminders of a friend implying that they don't talk anymore. "Your voluntary loving" Voluntary things can often be given up somewhere down the line. I.e. when something better comes along. That's just my spin on it from when it happened to me.

this song is definetely about jon lee(r.i.p) Grant wants to know what would it be if he picked up the phone, and not knowing what would happen kills him just the same,he regrets it deeply, grant then goes on what he would say to jon if he picked up the phone here is my spin on the next lines Your voluntary loving Apologies of past The taste of bitter glass I believe these are the things that makes Grant remember about Jon a great song knowing the fact that it was written about Johns death puts a much deeper meaning and importance in it.A true and tragic story i wouldnt wanna be in Grants shoes,i guess i would have trouble sleeping thingking about what would happen if he picked up,i guess it would kill me the same way
