Save Your Scissors

The first time I heard this song, is when he played it live, and I fell in love with it right there. I think Dallas wrtoe this song with the intentions to not wear his heart out on his sleeve anymore. This song explains exactly what I think about relationships... if you're going to get into one, have the intentions to stay in it... don't take someone for a ride, in the end it hurts. So save your scissors.

i, too, fell in love with this song the very first time i heard it! however, i do not think it has anything to do with not wearing his heart on his sleeve, but rather the opposite... if you listen to the rest of their music you know that their lyrics are always pretty deep and looking for more meaning out of life and the world.

i think that ultimately he's saying that he's looking for more out of a relationship than the one he's in, he realizes that the girl he's with isn't for him, and he wants out, and he's trying to get her to understand.

"so go on, and i will refrain and i'll keep running this never-ending race" - he sees the bigger picture, the "never-ending race" is life and part of it is the relationships we form, and he's telling her that she can be upset with him but he's going to keep on moving forward

"maybe next time will be the right time, maybe next time will be your time" - he's telling her that life is unpredictable but remaining hopeful, saying that no they're not right for each other but there is someone out there for both of them

"so save your scissors for someone else's skin, my surface is so tough i don't think the blade will dig in" - he's telling her to save her fight for the right one, because he understands a deeper meaning to relationships and life and he knows he's doing the right thing by letting her go, so just let it happen

"save your strength, save your wasted time, there's no way that i want you to be left behind" - he's telling her that she is wasting her time fighting with/for him, again, because it just isn't right, she isn't for him, and he knows that, but in the same regard, he cares about her enough to want her to move on and be happy

"why does it always seem that every time i turn around someone falls in love with me... this has never been my soul intention and i have never claimed a patent on such inventions" ... like the case of this girl, he is just trying to go through life and get to know people, but they seem to find him so unique that they fall in love with him so quickly, and he's never asked for this nor does he want it

"there is something that i must confess to you tonight and that is i expect nothing less from you tonight" - he's telling her that he expects of her nothing less than he expects of himself... he wants her to stop fighting the inevitable/the right and just move on because that's what he is doing

overall, i think he's just a little baffled at the way the whole courting ritual has gone down for him... he sees it as an addition to his life but not a necessity, and he wants that addition to be as good as possible so he's waiting for the right one... unfortunately for the girls who aren't the right one, they need to save their fight for someone else because he knows what he's looking for

so, more or less, i think he is wearing his heart on his sleeve, letting people know that if it's not right, he's not going to waste his time

Personally, I don't think this is about relationships, I think it's about the music industry.

"So save your scissors for someone elses skin" - save your negative comments for someone else, because they don't affect me, so don't waste your time

"And I'll keep on running this neverending race" - possibly, he's saying he's gonna in the music industry for as long as possible

"So why does it always seem that every time I turn around somebody falls in love with me. This has never been my soul intention" - possibly saying how because he's in the limelight, girls are more attracted to him, than when he wasn't well-known. He never really intended to be some kind of sex symbol, just be a musician.

A clever idea, Mr. Manback, but I don't fully agree with you. Maybe it's because I'm a romantic, but lyrics like "There's no way that I want you to be left behind" wouldn't really be directed towards such a corrupt industry. Though I like the idea of it.

I personally think it's directed towards someone who is trying or tried to leave their mark on Dallas, but he is unable to comply to their love. Hence the "So why does it seem that..." line. If you've seen him live he's got a very magnetic presence. Maybe the tough surface is due to a rough heartbreak from the past, but whatever it is, he's unable to dedicate himself to the owner of said scissors.

Yeah I think he's saying that this person who has feelings for him shouldn't bother because he doesn't feel the same way. He's saying "save your scissors" to this person, as if he means save them for someone who will return your love. "There's no way..." - this means that he thinks that the person who has feelings for him is missing out on other oppurtunities because of it, and is getting left behind. Most of the lines here give me that idea, that someone is in love with him.

hmm i just got an idea about the meaning like the scissors would be a metaphor of someone cut his skin to come into him, try to know him, to know what's inside so that would be cut his skin to get to know him but he just doesnt want this girl to or he just tell her that he can't like his skin is too hard to be able to cut it like if in the past he had been hurted and dont want to open himself anymore

gosh i love this song. dallas is playing tonight, but i can't go. his voice is amazing.

Well, theres so many ways you can look at this song. I guess it kind of depends on whats really important to you and what you think of when you listen to it. Either way, this song is definiely a favorite of mine.

I think of it more obviously. Everyone has their own opinions, so please accept mine towards this song. I get the impression that it has something to do with either a friend or a girlfriend who is self-harming/injuring, and I guess the scissors is just a nicer way to interpret a blade.

"Save Your Scissors, For someone elses skin": Could mean that he is trying to get her to stop, so save the scissors for something else, prehaps SOMEONE else, meaning, maybe, sometimes its better to hurt someone else rather than yourself.

"My surface is so tough I don't think the blade will dig in": Could mean that he isn't stupid enough to do it himself

"Save your strength Save your wasted time": Speaks for itself, she doesnt need to waste her strength and time on something like that.

"There's no way that I want you to be left behind": He doesn't want her to get herself into a hole she can't get out of.
