A Classic Arts Showcase Lyrics

White glow of the TV set
Lights dancing on the screen
Voice-overs rise like minarets
Then fall diatonically.
Should I answer a friend's distress call
Or should I go to sleep?
Would I, like the voices rise and fall,
What's it to me?

All those hours of wasted time
Have never passed my mind.

Here I am comfortable
In arm's reach of the black remote.
Here I am comfortable
Surrounded by stings and bows.
Let everyone else go.

Nights on Kirkwood so serene
Far from the sirens and the screams
I could write or I could read
Go next door and smoke some weed
As long as I don't have to think
About who the hell's running this mess
Or what shit they're writing up the Stone or NME
Go out and make last call
Or sit here and do nothing at all
What's it to me?

All those hours of wasted time
Have never passed my mind.

Here I am comfortable
In arm's reach of the black remote.
Here I am comfortable
All those clowns, what can they know?
Let everyone else go.

When I first heard this song, I was elated. I used to watch 'Classic Art Showcase' on our college tv station and no one seemed to appreciate it but me.

I am assuming that is what it is about, of course - watching 'Classic Art Showcase' and basking in its glory.

If this is about a show on college TV, could the lyrics refer to a time during college? It isn't really important to the meaning of the song; I'm just curious. Kirkwood Ave. is the name of a street right off of the Indiana University campus, which is what made me wonder, although there are plenty of streets named Kirkwood. I don't know what the Stone and the NME (enemy?) are, though.

Well, I don't know what classic art showcase is? I am from England...I can help you out though.

Stone/NME. They are very famous and well established music magazines in England.

"Rolling Stone / N M E" are their full names. They have been critics of AYWKUBTTOD, stating ever since Sources code e.t.c they have been going off track, losing their vision. Yet this song is lashing out, back at them. Saying it's his life he will do what he wants, so why won't everyone leave him alone and let him realise his vision.

Hope this helps! Just my little interpretation! ^^;
