Don't Die In Me Lyrics

The mighty continents divided
For a second time in all history
They found themselves just floating
Free from all responsibility
Without the weight of being whole
Some fruits evolved all on their own
But if you want something back
All the things that got cracked
When I felt like you lied to me
And all the million mistakes
And the kicks in the face
But i don't want you to die in me
So when you say what you want
That you need what you got
Don't forget to be kind to me

Now here's an apple with a tougher skin
While you've got your pretty scales and fins you say
See all the things that i can do
So perfectly my body moves but in
All the time you felt so free
Did you forget how much you once loved me
And if you want something back
All the things that got cracked
When I felt like you lied to me
And all the million mistakes
And the kicks in the face
But i don't want you to die in me
So when you say what you want
That you need what you got
Don't forget to be kind to me
I don't want you to die in me

Some of you should be careful (eg: liyano89, electricocean1336, gwenny, dasrite, x-xanti-lovex-x). Mirah doesn't tend to be with men, so why not use the female pronouns?

I like the line "Some fruits evolved all on their own". Nice reference, along with continent dividing (pangea), to evolutionary biology! I don't think this conveys her "growing stronger", but instead forming new parts her her life that are worthwhile and separate from that old relationship.

Other than that, I think dasrite got it :)

okay, so i think the song is about a couple who broke up (the continents divided for a second time...) and now the other person wants to get back together but the other is going to keep her guard up this time. she felt like she was lied to and made mistakes.

in the second verse where she says there is an apple with a tougher skin, that is the new her who is going to be protective this time.

and i think when she says "all the times you felt so free did you forget how much you once loved me" refers to when they were apart, the other person acted like he was fine and didnt feel anything for her anymore.

To me, "I don't want you to die in me" suggests the loss of her lover in his/her ideal form - that the narrator has loved this person very much and does not want her original vision of him/her to die in her mind (or heart) as they become someone she no longer trusts or loves.

right on, seatron :)

"Some fruits evolved all on their own"

I love that line. But isn't it self-contradictory? How could a fruit evolve by itself? There's no competition, so it's just by itself, why would it ever need to change?

I think this song is about the choice between being free, or accepting the responsibility of having the person who completes you. She talks about how the continents are floating and no longer have any responsibilities, and also about how some fruits evolve, but aren't whole. In the second verse, she also talks about someone feeling free, but this makes her feel forgotten. It again shows the conflict between being free and being whole. She says that she understands the allure of abandoning the people you love in order to feel that kind of freedom, and she forgives the person, and doesn't want to lose them.

Mirah is actually a lesbian (thankyou Wikipedia), but the song can be taken in the context of any romantic relationship. Most of the lines are fairly straightforward. "The mighty continents divided" seems a fairly direct reference to Pangaea. Within that context there is an allusion to drifting apart and separation.

There are also clear references to evolution and change. An "apple with a tougher skin" and "your pretty scales and fins" are references to evolutionary change and differences that have occured through evolution. This can also be considered with the reference to drifiting apart, as people evolve separately when they are no longer together.

It seems a lot of people tend to associate with this song personally. From my perspective the lines "Don't forget to be kind to me / I don't want you to die in me" are saying that she still has feelings for the other person inside of her, and she doesn't want to lose those feelings of affection, but it requires the other person to be kind and not destroy the feeling.

I think this song is a story of a broken heart.

"The mighty continents divided For a second time in all history They found themselves just floating Free from all responsibility Without the weight of being whole Some fruits evolved all on their own"

I think this means that her and her love split up, or divided. They were so in love that they had become "the mighty continent". They were the most combined force in history. Then they floated free without the weight of being whole, meaning they seperated and just kind of drifted for a while. The last line of this stanza, I think means, She was alone and had to adapt to a new way of life.

"While you've got your pretty scales and fins you say See all the things that i can do So perfectly my body moves but in All the time you felt so free Did you forget how much you once loved me"

So here obviously he has taken well to "single" life and he flaunts how much better he's doing now. She's hurt by this and asks if he forgets that he ever loved her.

This song has a lot of meaning and deep metaphors. I love the feeling of desperate heart break in the song, and the way that even though he's left and flaunts it; she still never wants to forget him. I can relate in more ways than I orriginaly knew.

I came on here to see what other people think that this song is trying to convey and was kind of disappointed that nobody wrote anything.

my friend put this song on a mixtape for me as a birthday present and gave me the tape just a day before my boyfriend's best friend broke the news to me that my boyfriend who I had just recently gone on a break with had been dating another girl for a few weeks while I'd been across the country for summer and lying to me about a lot of the things that he had been doing. so when I hear this song I really can't think about anything else. to me, it's about being hurt by someone you love and losing all of your trust in them.

but it seems like it's really a song about getting out of a really intense relationship and looking back on all of the destructive parts of it but still not wanting to let the person become just some meaningless memory.

I full heartedly agree with you, nineagain. Well, for the most part. I definiately percieve this song to be about love but in a different sense than you.

I see this song as someone who is so in love with someone that that person could do whatever they wanted and even though it would hurt them and break them apart they don't want them to leave because they're apart them.

"All the things that got cracked When I felt like you lied to me And all the million mistakes And the kicks in the face But i don't want you to die in me So when you say what you want That you need what you got Don't forget to be kind to me I don't want you to die in me "

I think, to me, what's being said here is that when all is said and done and you're done throwing your words at me and lying and i'm done forgiving whatever it is you do, I will always love you and want to me with you no matter what and not to leave me because you're apart of me.

I am just starting to listen to Mirah and this is, by far, my favorite song. i was also curoius as to what others thought it meant. i do agree about it pertaining to love but i , as well, see it a little differently. here goes...

i relate this song to my current situation. both these people care about each other sooo much...they know each other so well it's as if no matter what happens they will still be together (whether they are still with each other or are broken up). He needs her:

"So when you say what you want That you need what you got Don't forget to be kind to me"

and because they know eachother so well he is starting to, in a sense, take advantage of her & take her for granted, and she is just saying...don't forget about me - be nice!

she says she feels like she has been lied to and this triggers me to believe she is about to break up with him. because she knows how much he needs her...by breaking up she doesnt want him 'to die' b/c of her.

i dont know...but this is what i think. more people comment please!!!
