Safe Lyrics

Atomic roads, nuclear sunrise
They left me all alone
Falling stars exploding on the sea
God, it's beautiful
The land and the roses slowly disappeared
Why am I so alone?
A wounded angel is smiling at me
God, it's so beautiful

If any of you have seen the music video on youtube, you can see that it has nothing to do with a post-apocalyptic nuclear fallout scenerio. It's a metaphore for what mankind has done to the earth.

The person speaking the words feels alone because no one else seems to realize that what is going on is actually killing the planet. (atomic roads)

Land disapearing (turning into cities)

roses disapearing (symbolic for beauty being destroyed)

Whenever you listen to a song like this, you should always look at it from many perspectives, because it's usually not supposed to be taken litterally. (metaphores)

God is so beautiful

Oh yeah, I left out the explanation to "falling stars, exploding on the sea. God is beautiful"

This is just a beautiful way to observe nature. It can't possibly be refering to nuclear bombs (for one, you wouldn't "waste" nuclear bombs by exploding them in the ocean, the only people that would use nuclear bombs would target military bases, right?) My interpretation of it, is stars "exploding" (giving off light) onto our planet, or being reflected off of the surface of the water. I think this is the narrators view of how beautiful nature is....

This is my favourite M83 song. I'm not sure of exact meaning but it seems to be about a nuclear holocaust and the narrator is the last survivor. It's also a bit ironic when he says "God, it's so beautiful" because he's finding beauty in destruction and death.

Love this song.

I love the idea that it's from the perspective of a man sitting on a beach or a cliff, watching bombs fall in the ocean, witnessing the end of the world.

The imagery this song creates in my mind is amazing.

At the point when "a wounded angel is smiling at me" was spoke, chills uncontrollably went up my spine.

Maybe he is saying that its so beautifull to be alive? Thats how I hear it.

sung from the point of view of someone witnessing the end of the world. and in a strange way, hes just in awe of whats unfolding in front of him. i imagine him just choking out the words "God...its beautiful..."

another thought is that its about a guy on drugs watching a fireworks show. all these things are running through his head, visions of explosions, smoke, noise, all the while hes just laying on some grass watching fireworks.
