Play Dead Lyrics

And boys are so cold
They speak without meaning
The only time they talk is in their sleep
And girls are a bore
Their touch without feeling
Their secrets always far too grim to keep
And up until now
You've lived in their shadows trying hard to please them
But they'll never see
And they'll never hear you...tonight

Thinking hurts and thoughts don't rhyme
To those of us who've never tried
To find a face behind our lipstick smiles
And as our pretty faces die
Our plastic hearts will wonder why
The make-up just won't hide the scars of time

And boys are so cruel
So don't let them find you...tonight
And girls are so vain
So put them behind you...tonight
I'll cast you a spell
A magic where everyone plays dead forever
And you'll never smile
There's nothing inside you...tonight

Thinking hurts and thoughts don't rhyme
To those of us who've never tried
To find a face behind our lipstick smiles
And as our pretty faces die
Our plastic hearts will wonder why
The make-up just won't hide the scars of time

this line is wrong "But they'll never see And they'll never hear you...tonight " the correct lyrics's are

And boys are so cold They speak without meaning The only time they talk is in their sleep And girls are a bore Their touch Without feeling Their secrets always far too grim to keep And Up until now You've lived in their shadows trying hard to please them But they’ll never change As long as they’re breathing

Thinking hurts and thoughts don't rhyme To those of us who've never tried To find a face behind our lipstick smiles And as our pretty faces die Our broken hearts will wonder why The make-up just won't hide The scars of time

And boys are so cruel So don't let Them find you...tonight And girls are so vain So put Them behind you...tonight I'll cast you a spell A magic Where everyone plays dead forever And after tonight they’ll never remind you

Thinking hurts And thoughts don't rhyme To those of us who've never tried To find a face behind our lipstick smiles And as our pretty faces die Our broken Hearts will wonder why The make-up just won't hide the scars of time

I thinks it basically about a girl who hates the world based on the bully's at school. She is bullied until she finds a girl. That tells her she could just kill them and then they won't be bothering her. Underneath the pressure she kills the bully's and the girl is telling her "now there's no one to tell you your wrong"... Or maybe even she castes a spell to make them okay dead so they'll be out of the way. But it's about bullying and a girl who basically goes crazy from all the bully's.. It tells you a story you just gave to listen close. <3

This songs is about the games both guys and girls play hence; "Boys are so cruel.." "Girls are so vain.."

The Song is also about how society masks themself and it gets so bad that some of us don't know who we are anymore, and don't even try to find out, hence; "To those of us who never try to find a face behind our lipstick smiles.."

Chibi the lead singer in this case is suppose to be the mediator, and messianic figure who can save you from girls, boys, and yourself. Hence; "I'll cast you a spell, magic where everyone plays dead forever..."

Well this is what I got from the song anyway, I Love These guys!!!

I saw these guys live a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely wonderful. I really love this song, and I have to agree with Remy LeBlue as to the meaning of the lyrics-- the chorus is really where the message shines through.

"Thinking hurts and thoughts don't rhyme to those of us who've never tried to find a face behind our lipstick smiles. And as our pretty faces die, our broken hearts will wonder why the make-up just won't hide the scars of time."

To those plastic-hearted, fake, made-up people, thinking hurts-- they don't think, it's too much trouble for them. And, having invested all meaning in their worthless appearances, when said appearances begin to fail, they are lost.

It also seems to provide commentary on the nature of the formulated behaviors; how boys are cruel and cold, thoughtless and vulgar; how girls are vain, dull, and heartless.

"And up until now you've lived in their shadows, trying hard to please them. But they'll never change as long as they're breathing."

I don't know about other people, but for me, this part of the song [and the whole thing, really] rings uncomfortably true to the people I used to be surrounded by. But, as the song suggests, I've left them behind.

This song is absolutely wonderful, and I agree with what everyone said so far above in reference to its meaning...it's amazing because it perfectly describes the facades that people put on society---people try and act as if everything is ok....and too many seem to bee to narrow-minded to accept anything real:

""Thinking hurts and thoughts don't rhyme to those of us who've never tried to find a face behind our lipstick smiles." And as our pretty faces die, our broken hearts will wonder why the make-up just won't hide the scars of time."

perfect...

I agree with Remy on the aspect but I wish to add more to it. Indeed it is about society, but more of the stereotypical ways we view girls and guys. Which, sadly for this stereotype, IS true. Girls will touch people without feeling or emotion, especially in teenage years. They act as if the world revolves around them. "Their secrets always far too grim to keep" which is the strive for attention by attracting sympathy. They don't care otherwise as long as they get attention. As for boys, they don't talk about much things such as emotions or their feelings on something. But in their sleep, they dream and "talk" their true feelings and so on. It's like a poem a I wrote named "Humanity's Masquerade Ball". Everyone hides behind some sort of mask and thinks that they're in a comfortable "bubble" and everything is fine. They don't show their feelings because they're busy manipulating or caring more about what they will do the next day.

And as our pretty faces die Our broken Hearts will wonder why The make-up just won't hide the scars of time

So they grow up and become adults now. Their little masks they wore as teenagers are destroyed and they feel broken hearted because now people are treating them the same way they treated others. And as much as they try to put on makeup, it won't hide their past intentions and way they were, cause even then, they continue not to "care" for others' problems. To them, thinking about such things hurts them and thoughts dont rhyme to them because they never TRIED seeing through another perspective. The song is simply about the Narcissism humanity possesses about itself.

.it's broken hearts not plastic..

I've been wondering about the part where it says "I'll cast you a spell A magic where everyone plays dead forever And you'll never smile There's nothing inside you...tonight." It seems sort of adjacent to the meanings found in the rest of the lyrics, of teenage masks and fake smiles. Playing dead-which can be taken to mean apathy-seem like it would make things worse.
