I agree with Remy on the aspect but I wish to add more to it. Indeed it is about society, but more of the stereotypical ways we view girls and guys. Which, sadly for this stereotype, IS true. Girls will touch people without feeling or emotion, especially in teenage years. They act as if the world revolves around them. "Their secrets always far too grim to keep" which is the strive for attention by attracting sympathy. They don't care otherwise as long as they get attention. As for boys, they don't talk about much things such as emotions or their feelings on something. But in their sleep, they dream and "talk" their true feelings and so on. It's like a poem a I wrote named "Humanity's Masquerade Ball". Everyone hides behind some sort of mask and thinks that they're in a comfortable "bubble" and everything is fine. They don't show their feelings because they're busy manipulating or caring more about what they will do the next day.

And as our pretty faces die Our broken Hearts will wonder why The make-up just won't hide the scars of time

So they grow up and become adults now. Their little masks they wore as teenagers are destroyed and they feel broken hearted because now people are treating them the same way they treated others. And as much as they try to put on makeup, it won't hide their past intentions and way they were, cause even then, they continue not to "care" for others' problems. To them, thinking about such things hurts them and thoughts dont rhyme to them because they never TRIED seeing through another perspective. The song is simply about the Narcissism humanity possesses about itself.
