It seems more mature than all their other songs. It's a step in a better direction for more progression in their music, (if they're together long enough to do another album that is!)

To be honest, you can't really say it's by Busted...Charlie wrote it, Charlie sings it...When it was performed live, Charlie was the only one on stage.

I thought this could relate to the bad things about being in Busted "Just talk to me a while And joke about the things we used to see," could mean talk about things that happened before Busted "It's so hard for me to smile. I've never felt so alone," could mean that Charlie [the writer of this song] is finding life in the band difficult and lonely "After all of this, There's so much left to lose." could mean that after the band's life has expired gaining credibility as a music artist would be virtually impossible as some people are unwilling to give him a chance. "And I've taken pieces home, I promise you I never meant to." could mean he's brought Charlie from Busted home instead of Charlie Simpson. Sorry to burst your deeply analytic bubble 'the calling' but Why isn't about Busted at all. As far as I remember it's about the loss of a close friend, the end of a solid relationship. And Charlie wasn't the original writer, it was his eldest brother Will who wrote it. I forget the exact meaning of the song as provided by him and I can't find his original comments anymore, but he wrote it quite a while before Busted even existed and Charlie asked if he could use it for the APFE album. Of course Charlie made some changes to the song both lyrically and musically to make it suitable for Busted's audience, but in essence the song is still Will's. I think the last verse is one that is evidently untouched by Charlie. The style of the chorus and the structure of the lyrics are seemingly typical of Will's other songs with his band Brigade shameless plug www.brigademusic.com or www.myspace.com/brigade end of shameless plug The reason I say this is because those words strike me as being cynical of the other person in this relationship, and Will is the first to admit that he is deeply cynical of human nature and relationships. I would love to hear the original version, but Will is insistant that it isn't going to happen now it's known as a Busted song. I am also gutted that there is no known video footage of Will onstage with Charlie at Wembley performing this song :( Nice analysis though. Perhaps it's just the same way as I now look at their cover of 'Runaway Train' and the lyrics of that song as the first signal of discontent from Charlie. But that's a different song and now isn't the place.

And your right, will did write the majority, oh and Charlie does play it, it's proven when in the live DVD they had to play Why twice because Charlie's guitar was not working and the riff at the start was not playing at all, after two more songs, charlie explained to the audience about the fuck up and played it again, this time the guitar working.
also toward the end, the excat time he hit his foot on the pedal, the reverb turned off.
