Goodbye In Gasoline Lyrics
My lungs are aching from the cold from being outside
And the windows in my car have started to fog up
And it's colder than I remember it ever being in Florida
My stomach's burning and the stereo in this car is screaming so loud
It's 3 AM and I'm starting to wake up
And it's darker than I remember it ever being in Florida
The saddest song always plays
On the radio on the coldest days
So I'm saying goodbye in gasoline
'Cause it's the only way I know
My head is spinning and the engine is purring and it's clicking inside
To this pounding in my head and this heart on my sleeve
And it's quieter than I remember
It can go on forever
Do you know how many times...
How many times I've counted the signs
Of state lines on roads I've known
I know this time feels like goodbye
My lungs are aching from the cold from standing outside
After all this time I'm still fucked up
And it's colder than I remember it ever being in Florida
And the windows in my car have started to fog up
And it's colder than I remember it ever being in Florida
It's 3 AM and I'm starting to wake up
And it's darker than I remember it ever being in Florida
On the radio on the coldest days
So I'm saying goodbye in gasoline
'Cause it's the only way I know
To this pounding in my head and this heart on my sleeve
And it's quieter than I remember
It can go on forever
How many times I've counted the signs
Of state lines on roads I've known
I know this time feels like goodbye
After all this time I'm still fucked up
And it's colder than I remember it ever being in Florida

Well, I see I'm the first t ocomment, wwhat to say... This is probably my favourite song on B is for B-Sides and I think it's about him driving away and leaving behind his old life BUT I like to play around with it in my mind and it also sounds kind of like it's about some dude who got wated and drove anyway and crashed his car.
Even though the refrences are towards to florida. This song reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when me and 3 friends had to sleep in my friends car with no blankets, because he was to drunk to drive. Sorry i didnt really need to tell that, even though its song meanings i think were all entitled to give a little backing story to what the song means to us! lol
On this website it described it as the most 'rousing suicide song ever' and i thought what? 'cause I just interpreted it that he was leaving his home town, running (well driving away) from his problems 'cause that's all he knows he can do, but I spose if you read it with the suicide idea in mind it makes sense too, however I think that would be too much of a depressing subject for a LTJ song as they usually try to put a positive spin on problems.
there's a lot of things this song could be about running away from your problems and suicide are both safe bets i was always kind of thought about more as a song about arson, since it's a leftover track from anthem it fits in with escape from the a-bomb house and that's why they call it a union light the house on fire and leave or light the car on fire to commit suicide idk though, just my crazy ideas oh and it could be just fucked up thoughts that go through you're head when you're a little less than sober at 3 am
I think its about a lifetime of getting in your car and leaving your life behind, and this is just the latest time, another goodbye in gasoline. Like how many times he's counted the signs and road lines, its saying he always just runs away, and now he needs to go again.
I saw that website too that said it was the most rousing suicide song ever and i was like "no, they wouldnt write about that, this is just anothe rone of their songs about leaving your hometown."
BUT
now im not sure because ive found some evidence that its about suicide. -first is that he is usually happy about leaving, and doesnt go on about how bad things are, but rather glad that hes leaving them behind. -This is something he cant get away from. its like he keeps running but it doesnt go away. -he mentions it being cold, but i dont have much to back that up with other than it fits in with the suicide theme more than leaving something behind and moving on. -Lastly, people who commit suicide usually don't want to die. they just want to escape their problems and dont know how else to do it. As he says, "It's the only way I know."
