The Darker Days of Me and Him Lyrics
Promises promises
I'm feeling burned
You taught me a lesson
I didn't want to learn
Why did I come here
Please tell me again
Why did you ask me
Don't say you forget
I long for I long for
I long for my home
I long for a land where
No man was ever known
With no neuroses
And no psychoses
No psychoanalysis
And no sadness
I pick up the pieces
And carry on somehow
Tape the broken parts together
Limp this love around
Limp this love around...
Promises promises
I'm feeling burned
You taught me a lesson
I didn't want to learn
I'm feeling burned
You taught me a lesson
I didn't want to learn
Please tell me again
Why did you ask me
Don't say you forget
I long for my home
I long for a land where
No man was ever known
And no psychoses
No psychoanalysis
And no sadness
And carry on somehow
Tape the broken parts together
Limp this love around
I'm feeling burned
You taught me a lesson
I didn't want to learn

This song has always spoken to me on a very personal level. Uh Huh Her was released when I was living across the country with a significant other. The relationship had turned to a nightmare and I was stranded there for about a month before I could return home. For me that whole album holds a lot of those painful memories, but this song in particular felt like it was just for me at that time.
"Tape the broken parts together Limp this love around"
Just brilliant.
Awesome break-up song. Love the line "You taught me a lesson I didn't want to learn"
Pj is one of my favorite artists. In this particular one it's obvious she's feeling drained from a relationship, but I think a lot of her lyrics (at least the ones on relationships) seem to generalize the feeling shes had from several past relationships not just one. The overall feeling coming out of all of them is a sense of there being a reason for her needing to have gone through them "you taught me a lesson i didn't want to learn" but now that she realizes that she wants to just pick up and be in something that isn't so emotionally exhausting.
"With no neuroses And no psychoses No psychoanalysis And no sadness"
"tape the broken parts together, limp this love around" is one of my favorite lyrics when expressing trying to make something work that just isn't meant to be.
Incredibly powerful song. "Limp this love around" is exactly what I'm having to do now. PJ harvey is just amazing. So few words, says so much.
this a great track - sounds like a lou reed riff on the guitar - very nice...
her "please leave quietly" dvd version of this is awsome!
Incorporates a lot of the little-girl/mama relationship references on the album in her longing for home. Seems like a broken prayer for heaven.
