If You Were Born Today Lyrics
If you were born today
We'd kill you by age eight
Never get the chance to say:
Joy to the world and
Peace on the earth
Forgive them for they know not what they do
Blessed are the meek and
Blessed are the humble
Blessed are the ninety and nine
Deny the flesh
Deny all that's evil
Tonight you'll deny me thrice
If you were born today
We'd kill you by age eight
You'd never have the chance to say... to say...
Ooooo...
Joy to the world (If you were born today)
Peace on the earth (We'd kill you by age eight)
Never get the chance to say...
Ooooo.....
We'd kill you by age eight
Never get the chance to say:
Peace on the earth
Forgive them for they know not what they do
Blessed are the humble
Blessed are the ninety and nine
Deny all that's evil
Tonight you'll deny me thrice
We'd kill you by age eight
You'd never have the chance to say... to say...
Peace on the earth (We'd kill you by age eight)
Never get the chance to say...

Judging by the lyrics and title of this song, this is a cover of a Low song from their album "Christmas".
Oh my God! This has to be a close contender for my favourite Jimmy song of all time! Where can i get this song? I heard it through some internet media player on the Jimmy Eat World website. Wow!!! Such an amazing song!

Definitely one of the better Christmas songs I've heard as of late. The meaning is pretty straightforward, I'd say.
The "We'd kill you by age eight" bit gets me. Is it some statement about the quality of the world we live in now? Like, the lack of faith or something? Or is there something specific about that age? Can anyone help?
I believe the "we'd kill you by age eight" is about how King Herod attempted to kill Jesus by murdering every child born that year.
I think don't really think that their is any signifcance to the age of eight in this song. I think that what the band is trying to get across is that todays society had degraded to the point where Jesus wouldn't even be allowed to live to the age of eight.
The age could reflect king Herod's response to Christ's birth but is unlikely because Herod ordered the death of all boys under the age of two in Bethlehem and surrounding areas.
