Clear Channel (Fuck Off!) Lyrics

For your listening pleasure...
Fuck World Trade!

Scabie and metalheads,
Born in the gutter and then chained to the radiator of a squat basement for sixteen years.
We are proud to announce: The trippin' the dead,
The thunderous cacophony...
The Crack Rocksteady Beat!
As the same bitches that bought you the tower tumbling, Mediocre Generica on 09/11/01,
As the same mutherfuckers that united the gay rudies,
Rocked crack city and then sainted them Columbine kids,
We are pleased to present...
From all the way near back of the food stamp line
And straight out of mutherfuckin' rehab...
It's the good, the bad and the Leftover Crack!

The sovereign insincerity / the monopoly of greed,
Nickleback, P.O.D., Rancid, Britany and Creed.
The bureaucrats that leech upon to mediocre trends,
Your song in heavy rotation form the cash your label spends.
From the products you promote for the ones who foot the bill,
A fabricated goose-step for the pockets that you fill.
The monotony of censored products shine in the display,
The same old song of compromise went platinum today.

From town to town and state to state,
The same old song you love to hate,
The same shit staked upon your plate,
Rotate again and syndicate.
We've been waiting far too long
To change the band, to change the song,
Through every day and dusk and dawn
We've been brain washed to sing along.
No difference between the hot new single,
And the Pepsi ads commercial jingle.
The beauty's withered, faded, crinkle,
Just sip the Coke and pop the Pringle.
The boardroom is the dragons lair,
They play us shit 'cause they don't care.
The clearest channel plays unfair,
And we all want you off the air.
Overdose on shoddy culture; mediocre trends,
Auto-tune the bottom line as a means to meet the ends.
Merging corporate empires create the ill conglomerations
And buy up to reprogram major market radio stations.

Fabricate one single voice, broadcast from sea to sea,
What once held notions of change and choice is now being controlled fully.
Deregulation's raised the edge of exploitation's bar,
Politics is replaced by "bling" and clothes and fancy cars.
Trapped imaginations from the video's blinding light,
Bombarded with monotony that captivates the sight.

The channel we've been tuned to is all frigid, blank and clear,
Told what to eat and drink and buy and whom to hate and fear.
Poisoned by the fairy-tale, a capitalistic dream,
Go to sleep, you're free and brave and on the winning team.

No way to die. No way to die.
No way to die.

"They figured out a long time ago
that it's much easier to control people
when we're all watching the same TV shows,
listening to the same radio stations,
going to the same movies,
looking at the same billboards,
eating the same food,
and speaking the same language."

"The sovereign insincerity / the monopoly of greed, Nickleback, P.O.D., Rancid, Britany and Creed."

LC left Hellcats Records, which is owned by Rancid's Tim Armstrong. Pretty bold statement

From what I understand, they left because they wanted to call the new album either 'Shoot The Kids At School' or 'Fuck World Trade' and Tim wouldn't let them use either one. Too controversial aparently. I mean, he's supposed to own a punk label that isn't meant to care about stuff like that.

no, actually Mediocre Generica was supposed to be called "Shoot the Kids at School". If you use the way-back machine at archive.org, you can read Ara's essay on the matter: http://www.leftovercrack.com/html/ara.html

fuck world trade would make a great album name, but "shhot the kids at school"...well... anyway good song. I dont really think rancid are THAT mainstream compared to fucking nickleback and creed, i personally like them (matt owns!)

That quote at the end of the song reminds me of 1984.

As Chomsky puts it "orwell ideals."

I don't know anything about Tim Armstrong. Anyone mind telling me why you think he is dumb? That does really suck that he wouldn't let them use those album names on Hellcat Records. Whats so punk about making them change the name of their album? But do you mind telling me why you think he is dumb?

I think this is about how the media is trying to control you and make you believe what they want you to, and also about the "american dream".

Despite anyones misgivings about the idea of Mediocre Generica being called "Shoot the Kids at Your School" and its album artwork(Which was supposed to be an arm carrying a gun, I think) they want no censorship and freedom of speech. Plus go listen to Gay Rude Boys Unite the line is in there and in proper contex makes sense(its no less violent), but honestly no one can who would do that can claim they are fighting against cenorship...which Tim Armstrong has, that hypocrisy is what makes people think he's dumb...and partially the reason for the attack here, the other part being that rancid really, at one point in time, was a fixture on radio stations (this was about the time of the "second coming of punk") plus people thought rancid was a knock off of the clash so that even lends itself more to what i think this song is talking about:about how we need options then the ones that record companies and radio stations give us and that monotony is harmful to society...so my suggestion turn off the tv and radio and create something new
