Disciples of Babylon Lyrics

Can you imagine that it's all up to you
Evil embrace of powers unnatural
You're left in silence nothing more to behold
You close your eyes and visualize the day you'll get away

It's here
It's near
I see it all so clear
Tonight your flight will take you higher

It's here
It's near
You live a life of fear
Tonight is the night that will inspire

Crying alone at night your destiny unknown
You're every being full of rage and hate
Seems like you're running but you just can not hide
It's in a raging fear all solitude is left behind

It's here
It's near
I see it all so clear
Tonight your flight will take you higher

It's here
It's near
You live a life of fear
Tonight is the night that will inspire

Can he comfort thee and fill your life with ecstasy
Through the darkness and the pain
Will you be the ones again
Disciples of Babylon

It's here
It's near
I see it all so clear
Tonight your flight will take you higher

It's here
It's near
You live a life of fear
Tonight is the night that will inspire

Can he comfort thee and fill your life with ecstasy
Through the darkness and the pain
Will you be the ones again
Disciples of Babylon

It's here
It's near
I see it all so clear
Tonight your flight will take you higher

It's here
It's near
You live a life of fear
Tonight is the night that will inspire

Can he comfort thee and fill your life with ecstasy
Through the darkness and the pain
Will you be the ones again

It's obviously about uncertainty, fear of death, from an atheist's point of view...

"Crying alone at night your destiny unknown You're every being full of rage and hate Seems like you're running but you just can not hide"

and the talk about "ecstacy" and "seeing it all so clear" is ... when the atheist finally starts believing in something? The one doing the "comforting" could be anyone from Buddah to Jesus to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but I have no idea what Babylon has to do with it.

@lolzors Babylon is the supposed location of the tower of Babel, so it could be about how after a long time of not being able to understand each other they finally came together to get to go

@lolzors "obviously"

it could be about dragons and war, but it might not be. but it has an amazing break in the middle! sorry for an un-enlightening input..

Babylon was a holy city in ancient Mesopotamia.

Maybe build on that?

i'll take a wild stab...disciples are kinda followers of a leader, so it could have something to do with a Saviour, as in religion - 'Can he comfort thee and fill your life with ecstasy, Through the darkness and the pain.' So it could be something to to with standing together (unsuprising considering it's Dragonforce) behind a leader or something to fight evil at a significant moment.. 'tonight's the night that will inspire'... no idea about Babylon though...

It IS dragonforce though, so they it's likely they wrote it cos it sounds cool...lush song...

I wanted this to be the theme song for me and my friends back a long time ago. Dunno why it didn't pull through. Cool song though. Nice acoustic.

Its both lolzors and crujebsul! i belive it is about athiesm and you lolzors, u said u didnt know what the babylon part was a bout but right from the site on from crujebul

"The form Babylon is the Greek variant of Akkadian Babilu (bāb-ilû, meaning "Gateway of the god(s)", translating Sumerian Ka.dingir.ra). In the Bible, the name appears as בבל (Babel), interpreted by Genesis 11:9 to mean "confusion", from the verb balal, "to confuse".

It fits because the root from babylon meaning gateway of the gods is all the choices this athiest has

anyone agree?

I definitely agree with lolzors on this one. Im not sure about the meaning behind the title and line Disciples of Babylon, but Dragonforce is known for sometimes picking things that just sound cool and flow with the song, but given the history behind Babylon I doubt thats the case.

Something to note though, dont forget the story about the tower of Babel, where humans attempted to reach the realm of the gods, so it sort of goes along with the idea of it as a gateway to the gods as Audio said.

Btw, Pastafarianism FTW!!

In biblical terms Babylon represents the Damned; the people without salvation who live a life of sinful indulgence until they invoke the wrath of God and are destroyed.

As for the meaning of the lyrics, I have no idea. This song is all over the place. Obviously, the subject of the song is having trouble, but who is it? Who is the "he" that is being mocked about filling the subject's life is "ecstasy"? Without knowing that, it's impossible to know what's meant by flying "higher" or being "inspired."

If I had to take a stab at it, I'd say it's about someone getting fed up with living an empty life of self-service and finding something worth living for.
