It's obviously about uncertainty, fear of death, from an atheist's point of view...

and the talk about "ecstacy" and "seeing it all so clear" is ... when the atheist finally starts believing in something? The one doing the "comforting" could be anyone from Buddah to Jesus to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but I have no idea what Babylon has to do with it.

i'll take a wild stab...disciples are kinda followers of a leader, so it could have something to do with a Saviour, as in religion - 'Can he comfort thee and fill your life with ecstasy, Through the darkness and the pain.' So it could be something to to with standing together (unsuprising considering it's Dragonforce) behind a leader or something to fight evil at a significant moment.. 'tonight's the night that will inspire'... no idea about Babylon though...

It IS dragonforce though, so they it's likely they wrote it cos it sounds cool...lush song...

I definitely agree with lolzors on this one. Im not sure about the meaning behind the title and line Disciples of Babylon, but Dragonforce is known for sometimes picking things that just sound cool and flow with the song, but given the history behind Babylon I doubt thats the case.

Something to note though, dont forget the story about the tower of Babel, where humans attempted to reach the realm of the gods, so it sort of goes along with the idea of it as a gateway to the gods as Audio said.

In biblical terms Babylon represents the Damned; the people without salvation who live a life of sinful indulgence until they invoke the wrath of God and are destroyed.

As for the meaning of the lyrics, I have no idea. This song is all over the place. Obviously, the subject of the song is having trouble, but who is it? Who is the "he" that is being mocked about filling the subject's life is "ecstasy"? Without knowing that, it's impossible to know what's meant by flying "higher" or being "inspired."

If I had to take a stab at it, I'd say it's about someone getting fed up with living an empty life of self-service and finding something worth living for.
