This will be long, but I wanted to offer my interpretation. This song is very self-conscious and -reflective. It describes what goes on in James' mind and it describe his relation to people as an artist. It seems like a bunch of harsh noises and random samples at first, but most of it makes sense to me after a few listens. I'll break it down into individual parts of the song. The beat is chaotic, loud, noisy, wild, unpredictable. This reflects what goes on in James' head. He has all this music inside of him, so much that it sometimes becomes an indecipherable mess of melodies and beats. He has so much music he wants to make, so many emotions he wants to translate into songs, and it scares him that he has so little time in his life to finish even a fraction of them. That's why the soundscape is so hard, and evil-sounding. The music is constantly interrupted by voices. the first one belongs to James's mother (mummy mix) and represents his family. "You've got so many machines Richard" is repeated and hard to hear at first. This is because James feels his music-making is making him ignore his family at times. The line comments on how much time he spends working on his music, and his answer is full of denial: "I havent got that many". He doesnt think he spends THAT much time on it; he just likes doing it. The next voice represents the public, his listeners. All they can offer him is meaningless criticism like "thats a nasty sound". I'm not sure if this is how he feels about the majority of his listeners, but there are certainly a lot of people out there who can't or won't appreciate songs like Come to Daddy (pappy mix) or Isopropophlex. However, there is still some positive feedback, also from his family, either his grandmother or mother mentions that she likes "those fast bits". This relative then offers James something (to eat?) but her voice is cut off, James has already gone back to his music, too obsessed with his art to give his family more attention. The final vocal piece in the song comes again from the public, his listeners, demanding over and over again that he gives them a snare rush, until the voice becomes distorted and mauled. James feels that his listeners crave everything from him. They want more, more, more brilliance, taking and giving nothing in return. The voice is lazy, demanding, somewhat condescending. It becomes nothing more than noise after a while. At the very end of the piece, James is offered tremendous applause. This represents the positive critical reception and ecstatic fans of his music. Perhaps he's saying that at the end of the day, his problems don't matter because his music makes people happy. Maybe he thinks it's crazy that so many applaud him like a genius, an opera singer or artist on stage, when all he does is his job, putting his emotions and thoughts into sound. Then again, maybe it really is just a random collection of beats and voice samples. I have no idea why I wrote all this, but I hope that someone takes something from it. I would love to read other interpretations of this awesome song. |

| IZ-US is obviously short for "I See Your Soul" (I Z Ur Soul). James has finally found himself a victim, a small child, whose soul he will devour after an album's length of waiting. The poor kid isn't sure if James is joking or not, and laughingly pleads that he stops making his "big face" (transforming into the evil TV zombie from Come to Daddy video). Alas, even after eating the soul he has so desperately craved for the duration of the EP, James finds no satisfaction, no catharsis, and the album ends on a downbeat, mellow note with the song... | The lyrics are spoken by a child, who has lost someone close to him (presumably to the war). that's why there are grammatical errors like "loneliest" and hyperbole like "the most loneliest day of my life". I just remembered that on Vicinity of Obscenity, "banana" part is sung in a very child-like voice. Anyway, the chorus about "if you go" is more adult in tone, and this must be the person the child is losing to the war. He's the one who wants to "take my hand and walk away". It really makes more seen when seen in this perspective, I think. I hope I've made sense, I'm tired as hell. | |

It's obviously about uncertainty, fear of death, from an atheist's point of view... "Crying alone at night your destiny unknown You're every being full of rage and hate Seems like you're running but you just can not hide" and the talk about "ecstacy" and "seeing it all so clear" is ... when the atheist finally starts believing in something? The one doing the "comforting" could be anyone from Buddah to Jesus to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but I have no idea what Babylon has to do with it. |
