Day Old Blues Lyrics
Toss me a breath, when you hold me down
Hot like a razor on my face
Something's growing that don't help me now
Paging the doctor just in case
Low and behold things are killing me
Silly expectations of a dream
Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair
Boys are gonna hate the way I seem
Day old, day old, day old
Day old, day old, day old, day old blues
Peach Christmas lights spitting German ling
Feels like a fast or homeless sleep
At least there's a record that I love to playe
Dreaming about a place I'll never see
Betty, Betty, Annie is a praying
Baby with a man like a lung
Smell her crying fighting back a fever
Mad as hell give up
Hot like a razor on my face
Something's growing that don't help me now
Paging the doctor just in case
Silly expectations of a dream
Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair
Boys are gonna hate the way I seem
Day old, day old, day old, day old blues
Feels like a fast or homeless sleep
At least there's a record that I love to playe
Dreaming about a place I'll never see
Baby with a man like a lung
Smell her crying fighting back a fever
Mad as hell give up

I think this song is about dying due to an illness of some sort . When he says "toss me a breath when you hold me down" I think he's kind of being sarcastic or something, like he's saying to god 'give me a break while your killing me' "Hot like a razor on my face" I think is him saying how it feels like the illness is just killing him like a blade to the throat. In the second verse I think it's him saying how deep down the illness is killing him and I think he's talking about him dreaming of being a rock star and saying how now the dream seems silly. "Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair, boys are gonna hate the way I seem". I think in the third verse he's basically talking about how now life seems meaningless and he's just waiting to die. "Feels like a fast or homeless sleep". I'm not quite sure what the last verse is about. His mam's name is Betty Ann so I think he's definitely referring to her. I think it's kind of like a flashback or of what he's heard about his birth. His mam is very religious so it sounds like she was praying for the baby to survive the birth and that the baby was crying a lot. I think he's just kind of reflecting on life here. Like he's thinking about when he was being born because now he's dying. That's just my interpretation anyway. I always love reading into calebs lyrics.
I'm pretty sure a lot of the lines posted here are incorrect.
"Baby with a man like a lung" ...wtf!?
Is it not obvious that it's:
"Baby with man-like lungs"
In reference the the child crying really loudly.
BLUHOO ...BLUHOOOO ! ! ! This song is so crazy. crazy but great
i have to agree this song is f**king great!
this song f*ckin rocks, I crack up whenever I listen to him "yodel". calebs voice is hilarious. Cant really believe this is all people have to say about the song?!.
yeah, I've noticed a bunch of the lyrics on this site are incorrect.
What a beautiful song! His yodel is blissful - fleeting and delicate with a strong Southern rawl - bloody beautiful.
this is such a cool song.. I'm guessing they were thinking about poverty in the south, it reminds me of some time in the 1800's or something. Ada-may and the family..
I love the way they reference all of these country/southern things like with the yodeling on this track.
they do well =)
i totally disagree with the person tha is saying calebs voice is funny. i see calebs voice as being one of the most talented. it might be hard to understand at times but its rough yet smooth in the same way. besides that this song is awesome. its real mellow and i like that style by them just as much as when they rock out. kol is my favorite band just because they can pull off this song when others cant.
To me this seems like the singer is dying and annie is someone around him praying for him and his baby(as in his girlfriend) is crying so much its like she has manlike lungs because they're managing to keep it up. and the part about "dreaming about a place i'll never see" is refering to how he's upset he'll not get to do the things he wanted to do before he died. a pretty shit explanation to what i think but it sounds better in my head heehee.
Stay cool
