Snowman Lyrics
Made of snow, I don't know
How I fit in
To and fro, people go
I stand and grin
Way to go, even though
I can't begin
Made of snow, I don't know
How I fit in
Ever cold, love untold
I don't belong
Have and hold, so we're told
I think they're wrong
Heart of gold
Growing old
Just like the song
Ever cold, love untold
I don't belong
Button eyes, lullabies,
I melt away
Criticized, compromise
White turns to grey
I'm paralyzed
Otherwise, I'd leave today
Button eyes, lullabies,
I melt away
Made of snow, I don't know
How I fit in
Ever cold, love untold
I don't fit in
Button eyes, lullabys,
I don't fit in
Made of snow, I don't know
How I fit in
How I fit in
To and fro, people go
I stand and grin
Way to go, even though
I can't begin
Made of snow, I don't know
How I fit in
I don't belong
Have and hold, so we're told
I think they're wrong
Heart of gold
Growing old
Just like the song
I don't belong
I melt away
Criticized, compromise
White turns to grey
Otherwise, I'd leave today
I melt away
How I fit in
Ever cold, love untold
I don't fit in
I don't fit in
Made of snow, I don't know
How I fit in

It's sort of a sad song to be on a Christmas album, eh? At first it's sort of like, the narrator is a snowman and he's watching the world go by. But...maybe the snowman is more envious of normal people and he hates that he is different. THe part about I don't fit in would probably support that. It goes into the death of the snowman too though. That's pretty sad. Maybe the song is more about that life is short, get used to it. Or maybe it's more like if you don't act you will never get what you want. But it's BNL. It could possibly be just a song about a snowman with a bit of dark humour. Someone else comment! We need a consensus on what this song means.
i think the snowman's just pondering the meaning of his existance. he melts before he can figure it out. kind of like with real people.
I'm taking this metaphorically, in which case it's depressing as hell. I think it's about a person who has shut down all emotion and all human contact, and is just watching life pass by until he melts/dies.
Yeah, it's depressing, but certainly not the first depressing BNL song. And it does fit in with some themes they've covered in the past.
I don't know about shutting down all emotion, because there are emotiosn in the lyrics still. And he may not have thrown off all human contact either. He just isn't contacting. THis reminds me now that I've thought about it of myself. THere always is that one day out of the year in which you just freak out a bit and get real mad at everyone and just sit off to the side and watch people go by and you sort of wonder how you can possibly human when everyone you see have a life different than yours and you suddenly seem insignificant in response. And maybe melting away isn't about dying at all or going away, but returning from your cold state to come back into the world.
And even weirder theory I see is something about a hopeless relationship. LIke the narrators been with someone for awhile and they just don't see how they fit into the equation, Couplewise or maybe familywise. And before you ever get the chance you let time slip by too much.
And maybe I should stop thinking about this song so much.
You only freak out like that one day a year? Wow, you're MUCH saner than I am!
You're right, "shutting down emotions" wasn't exactly the right way to put it, but I stand by what I was trying to say. I'll try again: I was thinking more of someone who can't break out of their shell enough to make meaningful contact with people. Hence all the "I don't fit in." Just watching everyone else's relationships, without being able to have one of your own.
