This Red Book Lyrics
And I don't know how it goes
I've found another way, though
Tells us all it knows
I've finally caught a deal
Your face above fades out all the reels
Your face above faces all there is
Uh oh, there's a spot in my eye
There's a pill I have missed
The cloves of garlic flow
Like surfing down Pompeii
I'm messing up your show
You really should have guessed
Your face above, the only spark i need
Your face above, if I could reach your throat
Uh oh, I could strangle you all
Did I say that out loud?
Although it passed the mail
It blew a fuse and failed
It's too blue to be ours
And though it passed as red
It's too far off and best guess has it soaked at home
Uh oh, there's a spot in my eye
There's a pill I have missed
And this little red book knows
It's become my every day
I've taped over your show
You really should have guessed
Your face above, the only spark i need.
Your face above, if I could reach your throat
Uh oh, I could strangle you all
Did I say that out loud?
And though the text was fed
Too obvious, they said, and moved it underground
Between the lines they met like sulfur burns
They spread too angry to go out
Light my heart
Make me burn out like your name
I've found another way, though
Tells us all it knows
I've finally caught a deal
Your face above faces all there is
Uh oh, there's a spot in my eye
There's a pill I have missed
Like surfing down Pompeii

probably nothing. i can't sort this one out. can anyone help?
i meant, what's he on about?
"Uh oh. i could strangle you all. Did i say that out loud?"
that is my favorite line
anyway.. it's really hard to tell what's going on.. so cryptic
Personally I think it's about psychotic obsession with someone that borders between love and hate.
Or something along those lines. xD Pinback is so weird.
Love the drum beat. Great song too.
Does anyone else think this song in some way is referencing Mao Zedong?
I always thought it did in some way, but I couldn't really make a clear connection.

This might be a bit of a stretch:
"And though the text was failed" - most of the world didn't accept communism
"Too obvious, they said, and moved it underground" - there's still a minority people that think he was a great person (underground)
"Make me burn out like your name" - most people don't recognize Mao Zedong's name
there is actually a large underground bunker underneath Beijing that can hold like 200,000 people for a couple weeks, in case of Russia attack

agreed, peaceoutside.
i always thought that it could reference Mao in some way, just because of the title "this red book"
"And this little red book knows It's become my every day"
that completely connects also because during the mao's rule, the people lived religiously by his red book of quotes.
great song =)
No clue. My favorite one though. I play my Pinback at 1.1 speed so it sounds closer to the live versions.
I love the last lines of this song...
"Between the lines they met like sulfur burns They spread too angry to go out"
just an amazing song. The bass is so powerful yet subtle.
IMO it's about an entity trying to overcome some other entity. No judgement on either entity.
The first-person in the song seems to be a lower level person, who obviously has some issues. (I could strangle you all)
He's in the know enough to know about the bombing attempt:
Although it passed the mail It blew a fuse and failed (it's obviously failed, not bailed)
And he knew about the attempt to feed lines to whatever entity, but whoever was in control of his entity decided it was too obvious:
And though the text was fed Too obvious, they said, and moved it underground
So he is part of an entity that at first was open enough to try things without being hidden, for example the attempted bombing they would take credit for. But then the bomb failed, and then their attempt at propaganda was deemed too obvious, maybe to identify them, so they take their movement underground.
I guess? :D
