I think this song is about how people always want to know all of the answers like " what's the meaning of life?" and "is there a god?" but I think less than jake is saying that if you knew the answers, you would probably change the way you live your life, and who knows if that would be for the better or the worst?
also, Less than jake could be saying that everyone needs a little faith to stay strong in life. and with the part where they sing "if you had all the facts, all the fictions if you knew everything about science and all about religion would you stand by your convictions would you still make all the right decisions would accept someone else's forgiveness in this life" I think they mean that some people have sincere convictions that they hold on with them forever, but what is you found out what really happens when you die and if there is a god and the meaning of life? those convictions would probably change because you would either live the way you always dreamed of or be extremely careful so you could go to heaven or the afterlife of other religions. And because no one really knows all the answers and everyone has different beliefs, their convictions are different and their thoughts are different, which is where the "would accept someone else's forgiveness in this life" comes in.
I think the big picture of the meaning is that people are not meant to know all of the answers because chaos would be created, and since we dont know the answers, we all just need to take a " leap of faith." (=
