Chain Link Fence Lyrics

she's sitting right there on the chain link fence
she's down at the park with the rest of her friends
and she looks so pretty, but she's only sixteen
didn't know that when she smiled at me
now the boys are hunched over with their electic guitars
i'm lying in the grass beside my car
follow her down to the dixie freeze
now hold on, hold on, hold on to me

sweet girl, don't let go for the world
'cause i'm not from here and i'm afraid that i might never see you again

now it's the end of the summer and i'm just twenty one
i've been in california for the last two months
and there weren't no girls like her down there
her boyfriend don't like me and i think that's fair
'cause i'm sitting right here on a chain link fence
when she smiles at me i'm going to take my chance
i'll say 'i know the show's over, i wish you wouldn't leave
hold on, hold on, hold on to me'

sweet girl, don't let go for the world
'cause i'm not from here and i'm afraid that i might never see you again

This is mine and my girlfriends "song" cause she moved here from a different place, and we just sing the chorus to each other in our best southern accents.... I guess it sounds dumb, but it's really cute, and the song means a lot to me =)

this song is so cute. im currently in a crazy situation, in which im totally falling for a girl thats too young for me. and the careless manner of the singer totally speaks for me.

Is this somehow related to the song "Sixteen"? I love it!

Yeh, I think so. Sixteen is all about how Ben's grandparents met, cos he mentions in "Mom" that "your mother was 16 when she married the man that she loved, and she gave you everything she had and you gave it to us".

I think this might be about Ben's grandfather meeting his future wife, maybe 8 years before he went to or came back from "The War", hence the line "beat the odds one night at 22".

It's nice to hear a tale of heartbreak from a singer's perspective. When I go to concerts, I almost always wish the show wouldn't end so I can spend more time with the guys from the band. Especially the one I've set my sights on. Sounds pathetic I know.
