On the surface, this is just a song about drinking. End of the night, hammered, don't want to move. And so on...
But when you look into it deeper, it's about being the cause of your own misery, and drinking to cover it up. "it ain't the liquor; it ain't the beer that keeps me down it ain't the sad songs or the heartache it ain't even this town" It's yourself that keeps you down. Depression. It's nothing in your life that's really the problem, you just don't feel like you should be happy. "well i must've had a pretty good time to end up here made a pretty good run; caught up with me, my dear" Trying to drink and party to chear yourself up only lasts so long. Eventually we all end up back on that floor.

i'm an idiot... but every time i hear this song, i start crying like a baby. i don't know, but they way I see it is, every time something good happens to you, something bad comes along and just makes you want to die. you know, for every instant of happiness there's something really bad, that brings you down. and sometimes it takes you a while to get back up. you just want to lay there and die. and people blame it on things like liquor or beer, or heartache, but it's not just that... it's everything. And you get so tired of it.... that sometimes, it feels like no matter what... you're going to end up in the same place. ::sighs:: depression sucks. but I love Lucero. They're the best.
kitteh, don't beat yourself up over it. I feel the same way, I hate how I feel invincible one day and vulnerable the next. Somehow, something comes up that makes me spiral into depression and I feel like there's nothing that anyone can say or do to make me feel better.
