Independently Happy Lyrics
I feel that it's hard enough to say goodbye
I feel there's the water, should I sink or dive
But an empty plate, fill up my sentimental morning star
I steal the art of putting truth in a lie
I still want the girl that really caught my eye
But, she lives in Oklahoma City, far away from me
Well, there's
An empty hope chest
I quit the dope quest
And remain independently happy
I said I'm finally happy
Happy
Independently happy
Happy
And I deal with that fact that I've forgiven the worst
And I feel that my social behavior may seem somewhat unrehearsed, but
Another page
A sullen rage
And I'll be back to my normal self
I'm finally happy
Happy
Independently happy
Happy
[Interlude]
So I drive to the edge of my considerable plane
And I apologize to the people I hurt on the way
But I
I wipe the slate clean
I kick the daydream
And remain independently happy
I said I'm finally happy
Happy
I'm independently
I'm independently happy
Happy
I'm happy
I'm independently
I'm independently
I feel there's the water, should I sink or dive
But an empty plate, fill up my sentimental morning star
I steal the art of putting truth in a lie
I still want the girl that really caught my eye
But, she lives in Oklahoma City, far away from me
Well, there's
An empty hope chest
I quit the dope quest
And remain independently happy

this is his story of kicking a drug habit and his declaration that he is finally happy without needing the drugs.
I think he started the drugs because the girl left or he stopped because she left because he was doing the drugs
I think he started the drugs because the girl left or he stopped because she left because he was doing the drugs
Great interpretation, love the music that goes with it!
i can relate to this song, Word for Word, its about being sick and tired of the person you've become, so sick that you get fed up with the bullshit of having to rely on a substance and so you decide to become independently happy.

DISCLAIMER I have just obtained a copy of Justin Furstenfeld's book Crazy Making. It's not very detailed, but it contains all the lyrics to all current (The Answers - Approaching Normal) Blue October songs, and his inspiration behind them. As I said, it's not very detailed, but it's his words on every Blue October song that is in the book. I know everyone interprets a song differently from everyone else, but having the original intent behind the song will be helpful to people who don't fully understand a song. Also, any grammatical errors are not made by me, I'm putting down Justin's words exactly how he writes them. So yea... enjoy :)
